My 2 westies puppies are on burns at the mo ......but was just wondering if it was wise to maybe rotate the burns with the Nature Diet...

I have noticed that they drink so much water with the dry food and with trying to house train them its hard because they always go for wee more than often on there puppy mats.. when Im trying to train them to go out in the garden instead of the mats.

They seem to want to go all the time because they drink quiet a bit of water....If anyone has any suggestions i would be greatful.

Would it harm them if they had maybe the burns in morning and then maybe the Nature Diet in the evening??

They will take in the same amount of fluid whether it is incomporated into the food or taken seperately as they simply respond to thirst.  Puppies do wee a lot, they have very small bladders and are still building muscle strength to control them :)

Hmm, would you consider restricting the fluid intake of a baby........?

Of course they wear nappies; dogs don't and they pee, a lot as they have little bladders that can only contain a little pee, and they are, like us, over 70% water.

If you don't want them to go on mats, it is far easier to train going into the garden in the first place, now you just have to train the whole thing twice.......

I feed Burns to my 3 yr old RR and wafcol puppy to my 14 week old RR. The pup will eventually be weaned onto burns adult at around 12 mnths+. I feed both foods mainly with water and ALWAYS leave fresh water down. I wouldnt advise feeding 2 different foods.  Unfortunately puppies drink and pee alot and all you can do is continue training, ignore the pees in the wrong places and praise the pees in the right place. I suggest only leaving the training pads down at night, through the day or while you are with them watch them very closely, if caught peeing say nothing at first and quickly put them out to do there business then praise when they do. They will eventually get the message, when the are old enough take water away from them over night making sure they have had there last evening fluids and then put out to pee and its a case of early early morning pees, gradually leaving it longer. For the mean time all you can do is direct them and wait through the development stages. Puppies need water always.

I think it is better if you put the puppy out before it pees :) ie after every meal, nap or 40 minutes playing.  If you wait until it has already done it you are in for a long wait outside, likely to get fed up, bring pup in and cycle repeats itself ;)
I would never take water away at any age especially with a dry diet.  When puppy is young you just have to let them out during the night or use paper as they mature you will find they can hold it easily overnight without withholding water.  We all know what it is like to be thirsty and no prospect of a drink and it's not very nice and regular dehyration can lead to urine infections and even bladder stones.
