I work from 9.00am to 4.45 monday to Friday but do come home fora whole hour at lunch time which is 1-2pm. Would these hours be really unsuitable if i wanted a bull dog?
I think the hours would be unsuitable for any puppy to be completely honest. Puppies need alot of attention and care in their first few months. An adult dog may be o.k in this situation, as I expect alot of people on this forum work and have dogs, but it would have to be a mature and well settled dog. Puppies need letting out to go to toilet every hour in their first weeks, they need feeding 4 times a day and they need the company of people to play and learn so they become well balanced dogs. This is just my opinion and some people may disagree. Bulldogs are very people dogs and thrive on human company.
We have a Staff and she is only left for a few hours at a time and only occasionally because my Husband works nights and weekends as well as days and I work full time. Personally, I dont think leaving a dog all day even with a break in the lunch hour is a good idea and I think most of the threads here that have dealt with this issue previously have agreed. I dont think the breed is relevant.

I dont think the breed is relevant either. However as someone else mentioned, bulldogs are very people orientated and it would do your pup no good being left on it's own for such long periods :(
I wish they could come up with pupernity leave. Same as maternity leave but for pups :D
I think young pups need just as much love and attention as human babies when they are first brought home, this ofcourse should go on all of their lives, but those first few months are critical, they need as much time, attention, socialisation and training as you can give!
Guest please join and tell us more about your circumstances, perhaps we can come up with a way to get your pup,eg. doggy walkers etc.
Thank you for the support Frodo :-) appreciated
when we had Giorgia I had the first two weeks off then my Husband had the second two weeks off. During this time we carefully introduced her to being left on her own, a few minutes at a time. Even now though she's not left much, she doesnt like it. But she has never been destructive or chewed even though she has always had the run of the upstairs but just sulks. As Frodo says Bulldogs are the same as Staffs and the the pup would crave human company and not be contented with this arrangement and as Tigerlily pointed out there are the 4 feeds a day and the toilet training to consider as well.
