One hears of so many different products nowadays, that I wonder what flea treatment for dogs (and cats) people here use and would recommend?
I have previously been very concerned with the toxic risks of some products, but feel I must consider something!
Also, what product do people prefer to use to spray around carpets/furnishings etc?
Grateful thanks

Your vet will be able to recommend a flea treatment I prefer Frontline Spot on but I only use it when I need to, we manage to go years between fleas :). I don't really see the need to spray yet more chemicals on your soft furnishings. I find after years of dog owning a home evolves to cope with it :). I have washable leather sofas, everything else like cushion covers can go in the washing machine or has no place in my home :) I have varnished wooden floors, vinyl tiles and slate tiles on all the ground floor rooms, the dogs aren'e allowed upstairs ;). Where a little more comfort is desired I have rugs that can go outside for a beating if regular hoovering is not enough and all my windows get opened for a least a little spell every day, winter or summer.

Frontline SPRAY every three months. Have been using it for years and not had fleas around for at least that length of time,a dn no mor fleas allergey dermatitis/hot spots in the oldest for 8 years or more.

I use frontline too the spray works out cheaper because I have 3 dogs and 4 cats and it costs a fortune with the spot -on but if you only have one animal spot on is good.
I also do the house with acclaim once a year in March and never see fleas which is unusual especially having so many cats!

Isabel i noticed you said you had floor boards, tiles etc (sorry to go OT) How do your dogs go running around on them? The reason i ask is we have just had floor boards put into the hallway and my dogs are slipping and sliding away, they just cant grip it,i'm worried they're going to injure themselves :( I thibk it would be a nightmare if i had the whole house done!
Anyway back on topic :) Guest it all depends if you want a natural flea treatment or a chemical one,i cant help you with the latter,But over the years i have either given garlic or brewers yeast and they have both worked to keep fleas away,i havnt seen one!
Just one capsule of kyolic garlic or 1 brewers yeast tablet a day is enough :)

We have original wooden floor boards in the hall and sitting room even with floor varnish I find there is enough texture to them to allow reasonable grip unless they are going hell for leather in which case they can slide even on carpet :). I think laminates are a lot more slippy and I have never considered having them. The vinyl tiles also have quite a bit of texture to them but the slates are best of all as they are the rustic type but are very unforgiving if you drop any crockery :)

frodo, your dogs will probably adjust eventually (mine did) but you can buy paw wax in pets at home which is supposed to help them grip. Its also designed to be used in the winter to stop salt on the road irritating dogs feet. I've got some but my dog was walking fine on laminate before I needed to use it.
