Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Bassett Bitch Looking for Stud in Lancs
- By guest [gb] Date 24.05.02 22:06 UTC
I have a 3 year old 3 generation Bassett Hound Bitch with papers and is a member of the Kennel club.
I am looking for a stud to breed her with for the first time.

She is a tri coloured beauty.

PLEASE any one who owns a pedirgee registered Bassett Dog who is interested in a stud fee contact me on 01254 238417

I am not looking to 'show her' but obviously, the stud MUST be pedigree registered with papers to proove it

We live in Accrington, near Blackburn so anyone in the Northwest area of Lancs would be welcome to contact me

I think you should read the pages on the following sites, and think long and hard about why you want to breed, it should be for breed improvement. http://www.k9web.com/dog-faqs/breeding.html and http://www.akc.org/breederedu/responsible_breeding.cfm

Most reputable Stud dog owners would not allow someone who only has a casual involvement in the breed to use their dogs. Bassets are not the easiest of breeds, and I don't know what health aspects need to be considered. If your bitch is from a well respected kennel, then I would seek advise from her breeder. If she is not from a good source, then frankly I wouldn't be thinking about breeding, as you don't know what is inher genetic mak-up, and if you produce pups wirth problems you will be held liable by the new owners.

Here is a page about basset hound hereditary problems. If your bitch isn't carrying any of these, then it would be worth making sure that the stud dog isn't either. Hope that helps.

if you really know so little about the breed that you dont know where you'd find a male basset who would COMPLIMENT!!!! your bitch, should you really be breeding from her,

I mailed the lady privately giving her those sites about respoinsible breeding. she mailed me back saying she realises she needs to learn a lot more about the breed!

Please please don't get me started..

Please don't take this the wrong way and my comments are un the interest of your dog not you..

How do you know you dog is a beauty as you call it if you know nothing abou the standard, you don'tt show her..come on..

What could you possibly want to breed her for..the cost to you would be high and you could risk not only puppies but you bitch..

If you want a puppy by one..

Why why why......
