Hello
we have a cocker spainiel(male, neutered) who has a terrible oder which apparently is created by a bacteria within the ear. Poor bugger can barely hear.
So far no one has been able to tell us how to effectively help him.
Can anyone offer possible solutions ?
Is this common ?
thankyou

hi, have to taken him to the vet yet? Cockers do seem to have more ear trouble because the "ventilation" to the ear is poor. Do you keep the hair on the inside of his ears well trimmed, if not its worth doing, to improve the air flow. There is a very good ear powder called Thornit, that does seem to fix most ear problems, it can only be bought by mail order, but I feel he should see a vet, and try the vets treatment first. If he doesn't respond well to treatment, or it reccurs, it may well be worth getting some. I believe it costs £7, its a powder and you have to be very sparing with it, it lasts for ages. You can get it from: Miss P Bett, The Stables, Thornham,Hunstanton, Norfolk, PE366NB. Hope he gets better soon.

Thornit is very good but one word of warning. If the ear canal is in any may moist, (with wax or the like) then any form powder treatment is likely to combine with this moisture and set like concrete in the ear. As Westie Lover says, I would defiantly see your vet first. Blocked ears have in the past caused dogs a lot of trouble.
