Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Confirmation of entry?
- By carene [in] Date 19.04.05 20:17 UTC
I've entered Luke for his - and my- first show, and the cheque's been cleared, so I know it got there in time - but does one get any official confirmation, or does one just turn up?

General champ shows send passes etc, but open shows generally don't. What sort of show is it?
- By lel [gb] Date 19.04.05 22:50 UTC
as JG says you only tend to get tickets/passes for big champ shows
my breed clubs dont tend to send notification for open or limit shows or even breeed champ shows

It's an  open show. I've ordered a catalogue - do I pick it up there, then? Thanks for your help.

Hi Carene, yes just turn up at the show, and go to the secretary's table to collect the catalogue. Check it for your entry, and if there is a problem speak to the secretary.

It is advisable to always get a post office proof of posting, it's a card that the PO stamp when you hand in the envelope for posting. It has the date of posting, a signature of the PO person and the address, filled in by you, that the envelope is going to. If an entry is not recieved by the show, with this proof of posting, they MUST allow you to show, without it your stuck, usually. As the others have said, with Champ Shows you get passes, and if the passes don't come, you know theres a problem. This happened to me last year, and I didn't have a proof of posting. I did however have the fact that the cheque had been cashed. So I obtained a copy of the front and back of the cheque from my bank, and took that with me to the show, so I was OK on that occasion, but I will always get the proof of posting in the future.

Good luck for the show. :)

Yes, you pick up the catalogue when you get there.

How much does it cost for proof of posting ?
- By Emily Rose [gb] Date 20.04.05 08:07 UTC
Its free but it means you have to queue up at the PO rather than just popping it in the post box.
I usually get proof of posting AND I enclose a SAE marked ''reciept'' for the secretary to send back to me just to confirm they have recieved my entry :) And rememebr alot of the summer open shows that are run along side the agricultural ones ask you to put in a SAE so they can send you your free entry passes.

Or do I like I was advised for cat show entries, send a stamped self addressed postcard with your dogs KC name & the classes it's entered for for the secretary to sign and confirm the entry got to them.

Just wondering, if your entry failed to reach the secretary at all, but you had got proof of posting, is this enough to still be able to re-enter at the show (i.e. hand a cheque in on the day)??  Thanks
- By Moonmaiden Date 20.04.05 12:52 UTC
Yes, even if you haven't got a POP they have to let you enter, the matter is reported to the KC & it is them you have to provide the proof for & a POP, signed for delivery receipt(old rec del), returned postcard, encashed personal cheque are the only proof that they will accept as far as I remember
- By ClaireyS Date 20.04.05 12:54 UTC
So as long as I pay by cheque and that is cashed I wouldnt need proof of posting ?
- By Moonmaiden Date 20.04.05 12:58 UTC
yes because you can prove you sent the cheque by getting a copy from the bank(I always write the dogs names etc on the back of the cheque) but I always get a POP or enter on line if possible as then you get a e mail receipt

I have entered online for those that I can :)

LOL I have just Blackpool & tried to put the bots in the stakes brace class but it brings up an error page & Fosse data told me to take them out & they would do it manually so here's hoping they do that as I haven't heard back from them yet !

LOL entered all the Ch shows I'm doing up to July

I cant access those websites from work, and am computerless at home at the mo. so ive done all mine by post - ive written the entry dates on the envelopes though so im not posting them all at once so the money doesnt come out of my account all at once, I think ive entered all of mine up until July too.  I cant wait for Blackpool, im taking my mates up there so we can have a girly weekend, with the excuse of a dog show :D :D

From my understanding, the ONLY form of proof the KC will accept is that of a "proof of postage" obtained at the Post Office.
Cheques, Bank Statements etc are not, from what I am led to believe, acceptable as proof by the KC.

I had this exact thing happen to me for Gundog Breeds of Scotland last year, I rang the Secretary when the passes didn't materialise and told her that my entry had most certainly been received brcause I Knew the cheque had been cashed, I asked her if a front and back copy of the cheque would suffice, and she said she had to accept my explaination, and it was up to the Kennel Club to take the matter up with me. To date I have never had any corresponence from the KC on the subject.

Well when Darlington Ch Sh cocked up my entry & allocated my cheque to another exhibitor with a different breed in a different group & lost my entry form The KC sent me the usual have you got proof etc & I sent a certified copy of the cheque(after speaking to them)which showed my dogs details & my address etc & his placing of 2nd in Limit dog was confirmed & the paperwork was returned to me. the KC told me to hang on to the POP & IF they wanted it they would contact me for it

They had managed some how to put my cheque(which was stapled to the entry form)with an exhiibtors entry form who had paid by credit card(their account was never debited until the KC confirmed my dogs win)who had the same surname as me but a totally different breed & dogs names, they then proceeded to misfile my entry form under the same breed as the other exhibitor !

It all depends on whet the cheque has on it, I never got an apology from the show though & was almost called a liar until at the show I produced the certified copy of the cheque & then after much muttering they said there MAY have been a clerical error in the office. When my entry form turned up(I insisted on them going through all their files the staples & bits of the cheque were still attached & the entry form stapled to the other exhibitors entry form & marked dulicate entry !!!!!!! in red Er how can Cavaliers be a dulpicate entry for English Setters ????????? Answers on a postcard please. I actually went up to Darlington after the show & watched them go through the entry forms It took ages & they never said anything & this was AFTER the KC decision that my entries had been made. I did this because they made me pay twice & I still had to chase them to get my money back took over 6 months & I made them pay me travelling expenses as I doubt they would have looked for the entry forms if I had not been there
