I am getting a Rottie puppy in the next few weeks and would like some advice on how to introduce her to an 11 year old male staffie. It would be hard to introduce them in a neutral territory as the pup will not be allowed walkies until she has had her injections. I have only had older dogs before so any advice would be helpful.

how is your staffie with other dogs?

he is pretty good with them, obviously he prefers some to others. He was very protective of my dog and when he died, he seemed to get along better with other dogs. There are 3 adult rottie bitches in the park and he walks along with them having a sniff from time to time

Hi Sarah, I can only tell you how i did it, when i brought my 8 week old puppy into the house,. We already had a 5 yr old boxerboy.  Get someone other than your self to bring the puppy in for the first time , and let them introduce the puppy to your older dog, by letting him sniff the pup, then putting  puppy onto the ground and let them have a good old sniff at each other, all the time talking to your old boy,and making sure he never feels left out. Dont worry to much if he gets a bit rough with pup, mine used to put his paw on the pup and flatten her to the ground, just pick puppy  up till they carm down again.

I tend to treat it like when you bring a new baby into the house . always make sure at the older one gets the attention first, that way they wont get to jealous. soon they will be getting on like a house on fire.

I am so excited, she was born a couple of weeks ago and I go and choose her in another couple of weeks - the breeder had 5 bitches. The waiting is so hard......

I always let my adults meet puppies on neutral ground - just having the pup in your arms outside of your garden area is effectively  "neutral" - let him have a sniff at her and make sure to fuss him and not be coo-ing over the new "baby" at the time :P
You will probably find that over the first few days and until around two weeks have elapsed that he's a bit cautious of her and possibly even ticked off :rolleyes: fairly bog standard reaction by mature adults to a new puppy - particulary when the older one is male.  Just keep an eye on them, give both *time-out* from one another, don't forget that your current dog may feel a bit pushed out by all the additional pampering the puppy gets (extra meals, constant trips to the garden for toileting etc) and so make sure he gets some valuable "me time" with you and your partner when the puppy is having a nap and also don't leave food, toys or treats of any kind around - give them separately from each other.
