Topic Dog Boards / General / Cruft's questions

A good day to all. I have questions of crufts as a friend says theyhave a dog who will be competing in agility. I am not familiar with it. As it just finished a few weeks ago, is it possible to have qualified for agility for 2006. Roberts dog is what is called and Austrailian shepherd out here. He also says though the dog has a ukc name it is not adequate the dog requires a show name too. Please help me understand this and feel free to correct me if I am not right. Thank you all.

Hi Jessica,

I'm assuming from the wording of your post that you are from overseas?  In which case I would not think the UK Kennel Club has yet released the qualifications for Crufts 2006 in any disciplines.  I could well stand to be corrected, but this is usually reviewed at meetings by the various councils following each Crufts.

Your friend may well already have successfully competed in your own country to the same requirements that were in place for 2005 and is basing an assumption of having become eligible already for 2006 on that.

Regards, Teri :)

A dog competing in Brtitidh kennel Club events has to ahve a regitered name.  If it is a pedigree then it will ahve been registered and named by it's breeder shortly after birth.

If it is a crossbred or of unknown or unverifiable pedigree then the owner can apply to have it registered on teh Activities register with a unique name used whenever it competes.

Hi Jessica,

I expected the dog to be from overseas too when you referred to UKC - an American organisation known as the United Kennel Club :D

Hopefully from the further replies you've had it is clearer how registration works here in the UK and also Crufts qualifications - I'd imagine that since Michelle has said January 05 was the date for release of Crufts 06 Obedience requirements it will probably already have been established around that time for agility competitors too.  However I'm a bit confused as to your exact query here - must be having a blonde day

Regards, Teri  :)
