Hi, I posted yesterday (I think it was) about my friend's Dal with a blue & brown eye! She is gutted as we do think the dog is deaf in one ear, therefore she won't be breeding from her & will be having her spayed.
I must add that my friend did not buy this Dal from a young puppy & it was not her vet that did all health checks! But what I dont understand is why would the vet give out a health certificate stating that the eyes are normal, when one is clearly blue???... how odd!

I think if it was a health check to see if the eyes were normal, the results means normal as in she can see perfectly well through both of them. What the others were saying was she shouldn't be bred from because one blue eye in Dals usually means deafness in the ear on that side. Plus it is very likely she will pass on deafness to her pups. The problem with the eye therefore is linked to her hearing not her eyesight. Your friend has made the right decision in having her spade. :-)

why is your friend gutted that her dal has odd eyes this shouldnt make any difference to the dog or is it the case that your friend just wanted to breed from this dog

The blueness of the eye doesn't affect her sight at all, so in that respect the eye is indeed normal. But it's a major fault in dalmatians, so your friend is absolutely right to have the bitch spayed. She's still be a perfectly lovely, loving pet, and hopefully the joy to own that they usually are (when they're behaving themselves, that is!). Good luck!
