- By Guest [us] Date 16.04.05 02:00 UTC
I've been reading up on traits and characteristics of my Dogue De Bordeaux and feel my puppy may have what it takes to be shown. He is (so far) very well trained and listens really well. I'm hoping to get more information on showings or competitions. I would appreciate any info that anyone may have. Thank you in advance,Lauri Daikalo ldaikalo@wellingtonhotel.com

If you are in the UK there is a breed club for the DDB and I believe they hold
shows or gradings for the DDB's.
You could always contact the Kennel Club for their details.

Also you may want to start taking your puppy to ringcraft.
Basically this will train you and your dog how to stand in the ring and to move
your dog in the ring.
Some clubs that hold ringcraft are better than others when it comes to showing
newcomers/beginners how to show.
You can also ask the kennel club for lists of ringcraft clubs in your area or ask here
for anyone that knows any ringcraft clubs near you.
Most are held in the evening during the week, most clubs meet once a week.

The 'dog papers' have advertisements placed by show societies advertising their upcoming shows.
The dog papers are called Dog World and Our Dogs, they come out every week on a Friday.
In larger shops in the bigger towns WHSmith have them for sale, smaller Newsagents & smaller towns/villages
you'll probably have to order them in.
You then need to ring the secretary in the advertisement to request a schedule which will then be sent to you.
The ringcraft club should be able to show you how you fill in entry forms (keep one as a template of how
you fill them in) the only thing that will change is the class numbers you enter and your address if you move.
Then you need to send the entry form in along with payment before the closing date - the closing date is normally put on the front of the schedule. This happens for Limit,Open & Champ shows. Also some of these shows you can enter on-line which the schedule
will normally advise you if they offer this option.
The companion shows you can enter on the day - these are a great place to start 'learning' to show and are normally
more 'relaxed' than the Open & Champ shows.

Wishing you the best of luck and remember regardless of how your dogs do in the ring
you always take the best ones home with you because they are yours.
Although it is nice to be placed and once you get your first rosette you'll be 'bitten' by
the showing bug...talking from experience and still showing after 15-16 years now :D
