Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Little Alfs first show !!
- By ClaireyS Date 15.04.05 12:14 UTC
The time has flown since I got Alfie, he turned 6 months this week and has his first show on Saturday in Camberley - then we have a breed club show on the sunday

Both are open shows so will hopefully be nice and relaxed with a sympathetic judge ;) :D :D :D

Wish us luck - we need it :p

Me and Idõ have our first show at the beginning of June and I'm practically counting the day :D I've never shown a puppy before so it should be..urm...interesting! NO, it will be fun!
Just go and have fun, and don't forget to tell us what he did!!

Good luck Claire although I'm sure Alf will act like a little prince :D Go have fun and enjoy and make sure you let us know how you got on!!!!!

lol@claire I'm sure you'll be fine, most judges expect puppies to have a bit of nonsense in them. Those who expect a 6 month old baby to behave have something quite wrong with them IMO!!

He was actually really good on his first couple of goes at ringcraft on Wednesday then he decided to start growling at me and backing away when I tried to stack him and just generally having puppy fun :D

I definitely expect him to be a little bit naughty - it would be awful if he acted like a little doggie robot.  The thing is Saturday he is in puppy so he will be one of the youngest.  Sunday is minor puppy so he might stand a little bit more of a chance.

Will post Monday to let you know how we did / didnt :)

Oooh, good luck.

My mum's got her first show with her Pomeranian at Birmingham National!  Should be good fun as she still doesn't know how to walk but she stands beautifully.

Going to take her to show her to her great grandfathers breeder on Sunday, hopefully she'll like her.  I hope so because she's well known in the breed and I'm hoping that she's worthy of showing :d  Time will tell.

I think that I may end up showing her at Birmingham because she's so mental :d :d

We are entered at birmingham too - hopefully by then he will be behaving a bit better :)

Good luck Claire. Seska and I are at our first show next Saturday (23rd). She turns 6 months old on the Friday. God, why do we put ourselves through this :D I'd be better walking round with a pogo stick

Just curious, but where abouts in Camberley is the show? It's not that far from us :)

Good luck tomorrow!

It's not in Camberley...
It's being held at the Woking Leisure centre, think it's also known as the Mayfield?

He did well the little fella (sorry would have posted sooner but I dont have a PC at home anymore :(  ) He came 5th on Saturday ( out of 5 ;) ) but it was stiff competition seeing as the other dogs were all 9 and 10 months old.  He did try to behave himself but he just doesnt do standing still   Sunday at the club show he got a 2nd out of 3 he had behaved really well, to be honest I think my handling let him down (back to school for me !!) and as an added bonus I went down to Brockenhurst after the show on Sunday to meet my parents at a lurcher show, they were also running a companion show and Fagan got a fourth in open which I was well chuffed with seeing as the quality there was really good :)

Well done Claire, at least thats the first couple of shows over and done with now. I'm sure he'll get better with practice :D
- By ClaireyS Date 18.04.05 14:37 UTC
I dont think its him that needs to get better - its me :D :D :D  I was getting all the signals from outside the ring - lift his tail higher, move this leg a bit etc and that threw me out even more and the poor little sole nearly collapsed in a heap :D :D

We are off to ring craft tomorrow for some serious learning, we have WELK's in a couple of weeks and I need to know what im doing !!
