HI, WE HAVE 2 RESCUE BORDER COLLIE DOGS, BOTH OFF OF SEPARATE FARMS, MALE AND FEMALE. IN ADDITION  A 11 MTH OLD COLLIE PUP (FEMALE). THE MALE DOG IS ABOUT 6.5 YEARS OLD AND IS VERY AGGRESSIVE TO OTHER DOGS. THE OLDER FEMALE HAS STARTED TO GOAD THE MALE WHEN OTHER DOGS APPROACH.

THE OTHER DAY WHILST OUT WALKING THE DOGS IN THE WOODS I SAW ANOTHER LADY APPROACH WITH 2 BORDER COLLIE DOGS, SHE IS USELY FRIENDLY AND WE HAVE A CHAT, ANYWAY THIS PARTICULAR DAY SHE GAVE ME NO EYE CONTACT AND WHILST I WAS PUTTING MY DOGS ON THEIR LEADS SHE WALKED PAST AND SAID I WISH YOU WOULD KEEP YOUR DOGS UNDER CONTROL!! AS I HAVE DONE MINE. ALL 3 OF MINE WERE ON THEIR LEADS BUT THE MALE IS VERY VOCAL AND WANTS TO CHALLENGE EVERY DOG SO STARTED BARKING. I REITERATED THEY WERE RESCUE DOGS, WHICH SHE SAID SHE ALREADY NEW, BUT HER REPLY WAS YOU HAVE HAD THEM FOR A YEAR AND THEY SHOULD BE SORTED BY NOW. I SAID I HAD PUT THEM UNDER CONTROL BY PUTTING THEM ON THEIR LEADS BUT SHE SAID I GIVE COLLIE DOGS A BAD NAME. THIS HAS UPSET ME SO MUCH, AS BOTH MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE WORKED HARD WITH THE DOGS. THE MALE WILL ATTACK ANYTHING WOODEN, CHAIR STICK ETC SO NOT SURE IF HE WAS BEATEN BY THE FARMER. THE FEMALE CAME HOME TO US WITH TICKS, FLEAS MITES SYISTITUS, MANGE, UNDER WEIGHT BUT BOTH DOGS ARE LOVELY NOW AND ACCEPT US AS HUMANS EVEN THOUGH ALL THE HARDSHIP THEY HAVE BEEN THROUGH.

I DONT KNOW REALLY WHAT TO DO AND WANT TO FIRSTLY KNOW WHAT TO SAY IF I SEE THIS WOMAN AGAIN, AND TO DEAL WITH THE MALE REGARDING HIS AGGRESSION TO OTHER DOGS. HE IS A LOVELY LAD BUT JUST DOESNT LIKE OTHER DOGS THAT ARE NOT IN HIS PACK. HE TOLERATES OUR OTHER 2 BUT IS NOT AGGRESSIVE LIKE HE IS TO OTHERS WHEN HE IS OUT ON A WALK. SORRY THIS IS SO LONG WINDED BUT I WANTED TO GET IT OFF MY CHEST AS I CRIED ALL THE WAY HOME.  THANKYOU

hi im so sorry to here that you have been so upset after what this so called lady said to you there was no call for that,you always get people like that i would take no notice of her and what she sais your better than her some people can be so dam ignorant.You have done a good job by taking in your new dogs,i have two 7mth old blue merle boy dogs and the one shiloh hes a bugger he will bark at every other dog where as cheyanneanne his brother takes no notice but what ive been saying to shiloh lately is everytime he barks or goes to bark i say to him right thats it your grounded come on we are going home and for the last few days his barking has decreased,but cheer up dont let this woman upset you just think happy thoughts good luck

I can only repeat what the others have said. You seem to have done a wonderful job with them. Simply ignore her and enjoy your dogs :)

What a stupid ignorant woman. I truely believe that some dog will always behave aggressively, particualry if they have had a bad background. I have known some behaviourists that have had aggressive rescue dogs, and whilst they can get the basic training under control you can never truely stop the tendency to be aggressive. A year is not really a very long time. As you say your dogs were under control as they were on leads, if she doesn't like it then thats up to her. No doubt she has never had a difficult BC, becuse if she had she would be a lot more understanding!
