Do not read this if you are eating :D :D

I have been sat here today bored at work, so of course my little mind starts wandering and my brain starts ticking away

Well ............... I have a really stinky cold at the moment and a really bunged up/runny nose which I blow and blow and blow constantly literally filling 3 tissues at a time  :p  What I want to know is, where does all this snot come from ??? there is stacks of it, I only have a small nose so it cant all be stored up there and if it was it would just pore out :D - maybe its brain fluid

But seriously, does anyone know because its really bugging me :)

Claire (who is looking forward to going home tonight :D )

Yep I've wondered this before now too!!  I can get through stacks of tissues a day when I've got a cold and OH always moans that he's finding my old snot rags months later!!!  Whenever I get a cold its always the runny nose that gets me cos no matter how much balsm is on the tissues I always end up with a bright red sore nose like Rudolph that then ends up peeling for weeks afterwards!!

Helloooo!

As far as I know it's produced constantly from the mucus membranes in your nose, just like saliva is produced and other fluids! It's your body's response to get rid of everything, in the wild you would be swallowing most of the gunk and your stomach acid would be taking care of it, as for colour and consistency I reckon that's mostly due to your hydration levels.

I love icky stuff like that, I think that's why I became a microbiologist, great stuff!

And it's why you should keep your fluid levels up, so the snot remains fluid and easy to shift ;)

Nice hummm?

Your sinuses are large spaces behind your face which can contain large volumes of mucus that drains into your nose and throat.

Ok, while we're on about gross stuff ... I've had several colds in the past two months and have had exactly the same blocked up / runny nose problems.  Now I seem to have some catarrh / phlegm in my throat that I can't shift.  Will it eventually come out my nose?
- By ClaireyS Date 15.04.05 15:22 UTC
now thats a good question :)

earl, catarrh in your throat - you will need to cough it up.
