Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Stud service contract
- By JoFlatcoat (Moderator) [gb] Date 23.05.02 10:07 UTC
I'm hoping to draft a stud service contract for bitches who have expressed an interest in using our dog. This, in the light of hindsight - it is a possibility that I wasn't completely filled in with information concerning a bitch we have recently covered.

If I get to hear information after the event, it's alarming - whether or not the information is justified.

Has anyone else drafted such a contract, and if so, could they share it?

Here is one on the show dogs supersite, this is an initial enquiry form http://showdogsupersite.com/kenlclub/k9journal/k9j002.html actual contracts, http://showdogsupersite.com/kenlclub/k9journal/sscona.html and alternativelyhttp://showdogsupersite.com/kenlclub/k9journal/ssconb.html

It may be in the UK that a contract would not infact enable you to actually take any action if you were give false information by the bitch owner, Jo. I am not sure though, have you made any enquires as regards that point? I wonder if the Kennel Club would offer any support in a dispute if the bitch owner had put in writing something false, along the lines of blocking registration for example, might be worth asking them.

Hi Isobel

I'm very wary of making an issue on something that, as far as I'm concerned, is based on heresay. If it were in writing, however, I suppose you're on firmer ground. Have the KC ever stopped anything which produced income?

In this instance, I'm trying to stop the same thing happening again, whether or not there is any foundation for the stories.

Thanks for the links, Brainless - shall peruse.

Hi Jo, I know that in the neither a stud contract nor a puppy contract are enforceable in UK law, but I use both for two reasons. First in the hope that they will concentrate the mind of the people who sign them, and secondly in order to have something on paper should a dispute arise. Hope you have got what you need from the sites brainless gave, but if not I'd be happy to send you a copy of mine.

Hi Sharon

Brainless' sites are excellent - will spend some time sorting out what I want. If you have yours on e-mail, maybe you could be kind and send them to me (just the stud one; I'm happy enough with my puppy contract.)
