Just to horrify everyone.2 weeks ago my parents decided to have their puppy speyed. They are English but retired to Turkey.A neighbour phoned the vet to arrange it as there is a bit of a language problem. The neighbour said the vet would call to see them. The vet came the next day, he didnt speak any English, my parents thought he was just going to look at her but he performed the operation on their terrace with my parents watching. My mum is still in shock I think, but the dog seems to be fine now.

Good God, even James Herriot would have taken the puppy back to the surgery, and only did emergency stuff on the kitchen table. Plus that was 70 years ago!!

Thank goodness for civilisation.

OMG!!  Is the poor girl (and your mum) ok?  I would be worried to death about infection!

I've just changed my mind about living abroad ;-)

Not for the squeamish  but I would think if he disinfected the surface of the picnic table, or whatever he used ;), it might actually have been safer than a surgery where all manner of sick animals have traipsed.

Last time I recall I believe "civilisation" reached England a long time after Turkey etc........

Life is different in other countries, that is part of the attraction of travel ........

It sounds like it stayed here longer, though! ;) Life is indeed different in other countries - frequently shorter.

OMG!! :( VERY SCARY!! :( I hope your parents and dog are both ok, that was a horrific experience, and the language barrier added to it all, it is just shocking :(
