I had a phone call earlier for my DW breed notes, from a very shocked Lynn March (Homstar) to say that in the early hours of yesterday morning, she had been wakened by one of her bracchi barking its "head off". She went to investigate the noise, and to give her husband Phil (whom she'd left watching TV) a verbal earbashing! She discover Phil in a diabetic coma and choking. Lady was standing and barking frantically and licking Phil's face and Lord was trying to get Phil to take his teddy! She managed to get Phil on his side and their son called an ambulance. The crew managed to stabilize Phil and get him to hospital, where it was discovered that he had broken his shoulder.
Lady (and Lord) had been watching TV with Phil, when he went into his hypo. The ambulance men said that if Lady hadn't of given the alarm, then Phil might not be with us today :-(
Phil is home and ok, but in some pain from his shoulder. The hospital will decide in the next couple of days if he needs an operation on his shoulder.
Thank god for dogs! :-)

What brilliant dogs - it is amazing how much they give back to us when all they ask for is a bit of love, a comfy place to sleep, food and exercise. Hope all concerned have got over the shock.

Well done those dogs, there is some sort of society you can nomimate dogs for an award for this sort of things isn't there?

I tkink Pro-Dogs have a bravery award - a flatcoat near us, Star, owned by Sue Clarke, was awarded the Silver Medal for raising the alarm when a small child fell in the fishpond.
I'm sure Lord and Lady should be acknowleged with something - good on them

Yea I think they should get something. I am always a bit cynical about the altruism of dogs, makes me laugh when people praise dogs for raising the alarm in a fire for example when it is pretty clear they are after being rescued themselves :D but these two don't appear to have had any selfserving motive.

Oh I don't know about the lack of altruism :-). When my youngest step-son was small, Storm sheltie came rushing in one day barking his head off, and making it clear that he wanted me to follow. When I did, I found poor Michael's foot firmly attached to a large plank by the nail that had been carelessly left in it. The slight downer is that Storm evidently didn't trust me to cope, and then escaped (only time he's ever done it) to repeat his performace at the farm.
Well done Lady! And points to Lord for trying!
Awww, what stars they are. :)
Shame that papers can't cover 'pro-dog' stories with
the same amount of coverage as they do 'anti-dog' stories.
Still I hope that Phil is better soon.
I bet Lady & Lord got lots of fuss and masses of treats. :)

Couldn't agree more - the papers never tell the good stories!
Well done to these two!!

They have got to get Bracchi of the year at the next AGM surely Leigh.

Maybe you could suggest it Diane? My name is a dirty word with the committee at the moment, so if I suggest it, that'll be the kiss of death
