Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Day 58 zzzzz!!!
- By Murphy Brown [no] Date 13.04.05 18:10 UTC
Hello to you all!.I`m new here, have posted once before as a guest, I want to thank all of you for all the brilliant answers here.Have been reading from page 1 to 101 for three weeks, and you seem so interessted and concerned with each other.I`m Norwegian so my english is not very good I`m afraid.Anyway, my little darling is at the end of day 58, and all she does is zzzzzzzzz. I have to drag her outside so she can do her thing, as soon as she is finnished, she rushes back inside....This is her second litter, she wasn`t like this last time. She is in good shape, allways has been. I really dont know why shes like this now :) But I know that she knows best what to do, I`m just concerned that she is in good shape for the whelping.
Hugs from Oslo

- By Murphy Brown [no] Date 14.04.05 16:04 UTC
Thanks sarstaff!!!had a lie down after school with her, and she doesnt like it when I sleep?????She woke me up several times last night also, when I get up, she`s sound asleep, zznoring!!.... What a strange dog???  :)She probably wants me to watch over her, thats so sweet!!All the good signs are here:Strings of mucus (the plug actually went 2 weeks ago)milk in the teats, her hole tummy (belly?)has sort of fallen,( no temperature drop though.)
- By MINI-MEG [gb] Date 14.04.05 20:11 UTC

- By Murphy Brown [no] Date 15.04.05 14:43 UTC
Hello and day 60!She kept me up almost all night, licking and just being restless. She didn`t eat at all yesterday, and just a little piece of sausage today, been sleeping all day.
Got my camera,a million towels, emergency numbers, baby wipes, newspapers, notebook, clock, medical equipment (for the cords etc.)extra money just in case we have to rush to the vet, found some old pillowcases I have put newspapers in (gonna try if thats any good when whelping starts)the room is nice and warm,fleece-blankets,have I forgotten something??? :)
- By kayc [gb] Date 15.04.05 14:46 UTC

Thanks, I will :),just have to pop out to the shop, bying some energy drinks and sigarettes. She`s probably going to have them at night, when the house is quiet (and of course when everything is shut)
Keep your fingers crossed!!! :)
- By ilovemygirls [gb] Date 15.04.05 15:21 UTC
things always happen on a night, fingers and paws are crossed here for you we take our abbie for a scan on tuesday, so please cross your fingers for us
kerrie
- By Murphy Brown [no] Date 15.04.05 20:04 UTC
Fingers and paws crossed for scan on tuesday for sure!!Does your breed carry a lot of puppies??
- By SharonM Date 15.04.05 15:51 UTC
How about some scales for weighing the new borns?  Hot water bottle just incase of an emergency dash to the vet with pups in an enclosed box of some sort!

Good luck, it's exciting isn't it..........but it also makes you very nervous!
- By Murphy Brown [no] Date 15.04.05 20:12 UTC
Oh thank you!Scales in place now,had allready box to carry ,but had forgot the hottie!!  :)
It is so exciting,I`m a wreck , I said my prayers ,so many things can happen...
She has been looking at her back all evening, licking her teats(she cant reach anything else, poor thing) so things are absolutely going to happen within 48 hours.
- By SharonM Date 15.04.05 20:58 UTC
Did you have your girl scanned Murphy Brown??  Do you know how many pups she is having?

One of my girls at Christmas had 8 puppies, which is a lot for my breed, she was HUGE!!!  Vet wanted to x-ray her to confirm the number of pups and had to do 2 x-rays to fit her on.........and that was using BIG plates!

It won't be long now, try and get some sleep!
- By Murphy Brown [no] Date 16.04.05 08:51 UTC
Hi!No, I dont have her scanned or x-rayed.If she had been very small,I would though, in case there was a singleton. There is a lot of reason that I dont, one being that she shows very early in the pregnancy. My breed can have between 1- 10 (10, I know dont ask!!!!)so I expect around 5-6 (she had 6 last time) I also have a vet coming home to us after whelping to check her and the puppies.
WOW!! 8 puppies!!! :) How did she cope??  Was there enough milk?
- By SharonM Date 16.04.05 09:09 UTC
No, sadly she didn't have ANY milk, I ended up hand rearing for 4 weeks all over Christmas.........and unfortunately we lost 3 pups :-(!  She delivered the first pup ok, vet thought that would be enough to bring her milk in, then the rest by c-section!  We tried every potion to encourage her milk, but nothing worked.  So I was bottle feeding 2ml of welpi every 2 hours.........exhausting YES, but definitely worth it to see those plump little pups going to their new homes at 8 weeks!
- By Murphy Brown [no] Date 16.04.05 09:28 UTC
Oh, I`m sorry for the three puppies you lost, heartbreaking,it really is!Worst case scenario!
Good to hear that the remaining 5 did so well :) My girl was one of 9 puppies, and mum there had enough milk but was too exausted after 2 weeks so the breeder had to help her out.
Why did she had to have a c-section?
- By SharonM Date 16.04.05 09:49 UTC
Have sent you a PM!
- By marguerite [gb] Date 16.04.05 09:19 UTC
Just a tip for you, I use face cloths to rub down the puppies a lot easier to use than towels, when mine are due pups ive got the face cloths all over the radiators to keep them nice and warm and this dries off quicker, also have a hot water bottle with cover to place puppies on as others are being delivered keeps them nice and dry, then put them back with mum. Also have a diary to keep track of time born, sex and weight, that way you know in a few days if puppies are putting on weight. I usually weigh new puppies every day until they are 2wks old that way you know if any are not getting fed properly which can happen if the others push one away.  Hope this helps.
- By Murphy Brown [no] Date 16.04.05 09:39 UTC
Great!!Have face clothes, but I never thought to warm them up! :) my radiator is close to the box, I defenitly going to try that!Good tip!
I thought she was having them last night, she was clearly in pain. her belly hardened up, breathing heavily (she doesnt pant, even when its summer and its hot and out for a walk...????)Maybe tonights the night :)
- By Naybee [gb] Date 17.04.05 18:40 UTC
HI Murphy Brown, was just wondering if any news yet??
- By Murphy Brown [no] Date 18.04.05 09:41 UTC
Hi Naybee!Day 63 today! No news yet, although she is clearly in the first stage of labour.Night to sunday she was very restless, slept for 15-20 min. , then up again, wanted to be near me,shivering.Last night she slept like a baby....she eats, been outside, and I think she is just preparing herself for the hard work ahead.Have an army of people around me, three vets, two breeders, the day clinic, the night emergency clinic :)
So now its just waiting, waiting, waiting.....as we all know :)
- By goldenfever [us] Date 18.04.05 11:28 UTC
