Choosing the right dog! If you spend a lot of time at home, and you wont a dog to be a member

take a look at the Samoyed, we have two, even though I have a large family,and young
grandchildren they are not aggresive dogs, love people and children. Best of look.

I dont know much about Samoyeds' except they look lovely, but the Briard fits this bill too, and they dont tend to cause as many allergies as some other dogs.

All the Samoyed's I have met have been very vocal

You've started something now Denese :-)  We have a Bichon Frise that fits the criteria you mentioned with the added bonus of not loosing their hair.

I think we will all say the same about our chosen breeds. :D

i do like samoyeds but must agree seem very vocal,we had a couple that came to the club i attended before moving that never shut up,and a friend of mine has one and he's the same very very vocal, they are are a lovely breed to look at and no disrespect to all you samoyed owners ,  but not the breed for me.

My family had Sammies when I was a child - as you say lovely friendly happy dogs, great with kids - well people in general really and with other dogs BUT - SOOO noisy - typical spitz breed who just love the sound of their own voice. Bit independent too when it comes to training and especially recall off lead. I've got Belgians and although they can have their own little foibles I find them easier to live with than the Sams ( although I do like the sound of the Eurasier - a QUIET cross between a Chow, Samoyed and  Keeshond ;) )

Now if they had been around before the Elkhounds I would have had those, but can't see myself with anything but the Elkies now :D 

Just takes a bit more effort to ensure they don't learnto become noisy.  Loved my Belgian, but found them too needy and high maintenenace for my life.

Yep their even more vocal than the Elkhounds, though to be fair training is the main thing, as I am always asked why mine are qyuiet compred to others.  I always tell people they tend to being vocal so to concenbtrate training on discouraging unnecesary barking.  Not hard if you never let them get into bad habits.  I am always surprised at how high pitched a Sammies bark is for such a large dog. :D
