i have a female rottweiler who had a false pregnancy.  she has bagged up completely.  we have tried the first round of antibiotics   -  cephalexin  1500mg 3x daily along with 25 mg of benedryl.  cephalexin did not work.  now we are trying clavomox 525 mg 2x daily and 50 mg of benedryl.  she has already had 2 ruptures. searching for herbal or homeopathic way to dry her up.  the infection is spreading down her leg to the point where she has a hard time getting up.  vet says she is too full of milk, and infection for surgery.

Oh that sounds so so sore!    All I can suggest is almost constant massage with warm towels and some peppermint ointment that is used on cows - can't remember what they call it - maybe something like 'uddermint'.     Try to get as much of the yukky congestion out as possible through the teat orifices, and keep up the antibiotic as your vet's recommendation.

I imagine she''s got to much infection to even think of offering her as a 'wet nurse' to someone with a large litter?

Oooh poor girl. :(  Try Urtica Urens 3C   BUT make sure it is 3C as the higher dosage increases milk rather than dries it up. Phone Dorwest Herbs 0870 733 7929 as they may also be able to suggest something to help with the other symptoms, but make sure you tell them what she is on from the vet.

Poor poor baby.

In addition to Jo's and Fillis' advice

Sage is very good for drying up the milk.
1tsp dried/chopped fresh sage in a tea cup of hot water (soup might be more acceptable, but don't boil the sage ;) ) several times a day  or sage mixed in with raw meat would be scrummy if she'll eat, if she prefers the raw meat you could also mix in some garlic to help against the infection.

To bathe the area warm salt water shaken up with 1 drop of tea tree oil/lavender oil would be very soothing and antiseptic, let the area dry naturally.  Or if she's too sore you could make up a spray with 2oz water, 2oz vodka, 5 drops tea tree or 5 drops lavender oil (or a mix of both) vodka should help to emulsify but you could use 4 oz water and shake vigourously.  Don't let her lick it if you can stop her (she might not like the smell and won't bother)

Hope she's better soon
