hi there was just wondering if anyone knew how i could deter my dog away from where she has decided to keep going to do her buisness, she is 4 months old maybe its a bit soon but she has decided her toilet is the lawn and its starting to kill patches of the grass plus the children play on the grass and sometimes when she has loose poos you cant get it all up.will she change her habits when she is a bit older any comments appreciated.
Hi guest :-)
I have been trying to train my now 9 week old pup to "go" in a certain area, which is well away from where the kids play. Everytime he goes out I take him to this area on the lead and say "go toilet", when he performs he gets lots of praise and let off the lead for play time. If we are already out in the garden and I see him start sniffing/circling etc I pick him up, take him to the area and say "go toilet", once he has been he gets lots of praise again and a little treat. He has already cottoned on to this and he now goes to the area on his own most of the time, we only get the occasional lapse and that is usually when he gets too excited playing and forgets, like kids do. The key is the praise and plenty of it, to the extent that your neighbours think you are mad :-D I have done this from day one so not sure if that will make a difference. I do not tell him off at all if he does go somewhere else, I pick up the poo and put it in the area (which is big) so he can smell it next time. Hope this helps, and if you join you can tell us how you get on.xxx
