Are ultra sound scans save? I have heard that it can harm the unborn puppies, does anyone know if this is true? My bitch was mated 4 weeks ago.

I've never had a problem. Is it not sound waves that ......... ooops  it does say ultra sound ! I think I am starting to sound like someone who's had a few too many ! Honest I ain't had any.

they are exactly the same machine used for humans and we all have those quite happily. I did a lot of research on this cos like you, i had my reservations...and finally did get one done on my lab bitch last week.  The reason i think that some people dont find them very reliable is that if there is any reabsorbtion then you would be waiting for pups to whelp that no longer exsisted.  ive got another scan booked for her 32nd day cos they vet said they were a little hard to see on day 21...

I don't think it's the scan that harms the puppies but possibly if the bitch got stressed out at the vets, a friend of mine used the same lady who scenned his sheep & never had a problem

to follow on from above reply, if your girl is happy to lie and have her tummy tickled, she should be fine with the scan..

Hi, She has had a scan (day 35) the vet said that there are defiantly 6 in there but possibly 8 or 9!! I'm going to have my hands full! I can get my self prepared now I know she's defiantly going to be a mum.

They're as safe for dogs as they are for women.
