Just back from the vet with my 10 year old cocker spaniel, since last night she has had black though normal stools, and has vomited with blood a few times. The vet diagnosed a stomach ulcer, this seems to have appeared from nowhere, she has been eating normally, although maybe a little quieter than usual.
Has any one else had any experience of this ?

Hi Guest,

You would be better to register - ulcers can vary in severity, location, type of treatment, diet alone or diet with meds, even if meds are/are not necessary etc etc.  Also how did vet your come to this diagnosis?  Ultra sound, x-ray, endoscopy, open biopsy ?

More Q's than As I'm afraid :(

Is she on Rimadyl or Metacam?  Both of these drugs can cause stomach ulcers.

Hi
My 2yr old Yorkie had something similar last Sept. Worse symptoms tho. She had black runny stools+ and vomiting+ with blood . Wouldn't eat. Vet diagnosed severe gastritis. Said could have been caused by a virus - or may be she ate something while out running in the park. Vet gave antibiotic injection & also an anti inflamatory injection,  to be followed with oral antb's when she could tolerate them. Within 24 hrs she was so much better and fully recovered in few days. Hope your dog is soon feeling better.
