We have found a litter ( flat coat retriever) with all the right credentials but there are only dogs left - my OH and I had previously decided that we wanted a bitch as we had both had bitches previously. We are now debating the possibility of having a dog pup and would be grateful for a balanced view of the pros and cons of having a dog pup versus a bitch.
Thanks

I have 3 dogs and 1 Bitch(not flatties).I have also been brought up with an assortment of both sexes.I find males more affectionate than bitches but otherwise very little difference.

Always had bitches and then 2 years kept a dog from a litter that I bred, he's been absolutely wonderful and no trouble at all. Now I also have an adult male who again is brilliant! Had more trouble with the girls although of course I have a different breed :d
There are plenty of flatcoat owners on here who I'm sure will advise you better.
We have just got a FCR last Wednesday and have decided to go for male this time as previously we have only had females (goldens) and a difference between males and females is that males are usually bigger and that you don't have to worry about them coming into season which you do with a female.

p.s i'm sure a more experienced owned can give you more info
Got to agree Thomas is the apple of my eye. I love the girls equally but he is so kind, sweet and we have a mutal admiration club going. ;) Plus no seasons or hormones to contend with. I know you can have bitches neutered but I still prefer boys now.

I've found bitches and dogs to be very different. They're both lovely in their own way, but my personal preference is for bitches.
