MY SPRINGER SPANIEL IS 12YRS OLD AND HAS BEEN ON PROPALIN FOR 1 YEAR IT AS NOW STOPPED WORKING, I HAVE READ THAT GREENLEAF TABLETS MAY WORK, HAS ANYONE HAD ANY LUCK WITH THESE? OR DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT OTHER THINGS I COULD TRY THAT DOES NOT INVOLVE GOING TO THE VETS AND ACCURING LARGE FEES :-(.

SHE ALSO HAS STRUVITE CRYSTALS AND IS ON SPECIALIST FOOD FOR THAT , MAY BE THERE IS SOME FOOD THAT WILL STOP BOTH PROBLEMS IN ONE? DOES ANYONE KNOW? PLEASE HELP ME.... :-)

Please see my reply on your other thread, it may not be a preventative diet you need.

Hi there

Just saw your post and wanted to tell you our experiences.....
Our 5 year Old Spinone rosie was diagnosed as incontinet at 1 1/2 yrs old due to spaying (just our luck !)
We had her on Propalin Syrup for the first 2 years, I think on about 2.5ml a day
We then discovered the Burns Real food dry dog food, and our vet advised us to have a try with the diet and lowering her dose.
We did this, and haven't looked back. Rosie only has 1/2ml twice a day now, so has cut down tremendously.
The 100ml bottle lasts us almost 3 months.
We will soon try to see if she can go solo without the medicine, so will let you know how things turn out.

For your information Burns food is a holistic food, which contains no additives, colouring etc etc, it's usually brown rice and a meat/chicken source. It is on par with the veterinary bags of food, but I consider it to be the nearest thing to making food yourself. A 15kg bag is aorund £32.00 delivered free to your door.
Here's the website link for you should you want to know more :

Having a quick look - regarding Struvite Crystals on their site it states.....

Cystitis/Urolithiasis (Crystals in Urine)
Struvite is the commonest type of urinary crystal in the dog. Struvite dissolves in the urine so some specialist veterinary diets have calcium sulphate added in order to make the urine acidic. Oxalate crystal formation is fast catching up on struvite. One commercial veterinary diet aims to make the urine alkali whereas another brand aims to keep the urine acid.

Urate crystals occur in the Dalmation (and in humans)

Burns Real Food works in a different way to prevent cystitis and crystal formation. Burns is formulated to keep the whole system healthy and minimise the amount of waste in the system. This ensures that there are less waste products present in the urine to cause inflammation and form crystals.

Hope this is helpful
Best wishes & lots of luck
Shelley

I thought I already replied to this, but yes, I used Greenleaf Tablets for my old girl and they worked fine.
