Hi
Last week Amy was eating very well. At the weekend she decided that she did not care to eat. Whenever I put her food down she tries to 'bury it' with her nose. Either that or shes trying to tip it out of the bowl. She then sniffs at it and walks away. How shall I deal with this? Thanks in advance for any advice :D

nearly every pup will try this on, if youre still fedding 4 meals cut them down to 3, if she turns her nose up take the food away, the worst thing you can do is to start chopping and changing it, shes not got the competition of her littermates to make her grab her food so shes decided to take her time about it,if she turns it down lift it up and dont feed her again until the next ones due

Throw it out for the birds, you'll may find it then becomes very desirable. Once had a pup who had all his food thrown on the lawn until he was about 9 months old and decided he would use a bowl. Jackie H

Jackie.
:D :D :D :D
So true if they think they are stealing it, it becomes more desirable.

In which case is Amy due a season? Is she quite or depressed? Is she drinking more than usual? If she is showing any other symptoms apart from the inapatite, I would get her to the vet for a check over, sooner rather than later. Jackie H

not got much experience with bitches in season (yet) but is she by any chance due a season - I've seen posts on here saying the dog can have mood swings and strange behaviour ???

Is she still lively and bright ? If not I would follow the advice and get a vets opinion. I hope she is back to normal soon.

She had her season about 2 months ago. She still enjoys her walks and playing with her 'gang' but she keeps on going into her bed or disappearing under a chair :(

Carol take her to the vet, it is probably a phantom but it's best to be safe than sorry. Jackie H

Hi Jackie
She's a little bit more lively today. Hasn't gone into her bed but is still scratching up the cushions on her sofa. My son came visiting today and she was very pleased to see him. She also ate a little of her dinner oh and half a wholemeal roll :) (my roll)
Thanks for your concern - Carol

Glad she is a little better today, I expect it is a phantom but as it is 2 months since her last season I am a bit worried it may be Pyometra. You could try taking her temperture but it is not always that raised, and a visit to a vet would not be a bad idea just to be sure. Jackie H

Hi Carole,
Please do not think I am trying to alarm you but I am just raising awareness about Addisons disease in dogs.
Loss of appetite is only one of the symptoms
I am sure it is nothing serious your dog has got but it is always worth knowing about addisons as it is usually found in young dogs. I hope your dog is feeling a lot better

Hi Michelle
What is Addisons disease? Amy is now back to her 'normal' self - thank heavens :D. I think she was suffering from a phantom pregnacy but if teasing the other dogs is anything to go by I think she has forgotten that she could have had puppies
Thanks for concern
Carol :D
Hi Carol, this site gives a pretty comprehensive explanation.
