'dosnt seem to loose weight when food is cut down'

maybe a thyroid problem?

Good point Ana_x

I think it's easy to forget that a thyroid imbalance can be underactive as well as overactive.

Regards, Teri :)

would this make her cry alot, and what other symptoms would go with it, what treatment if it turns out to be this

Blood tests would be needed to diagnose this, so it's something your vet would have to do. At the same time get him to do a urine test for diabetes. Seriously, guessing won't help your dog - you do need to find out scientifically. Good luck.

she had a blood check a few months back and the vet said it was all clear, dont know if he would of automaticly tested for this or not

I believe the test for diabetes is a urine test, not a blood test, but could be wrong! Has this problem been going on for months then? Is that why the vet did blood tests? I would ask the vet to run a full range of blood tests.

Yes you can run a blood glucose test JG.  Diabetes usually leads to weight loss though so on that basis hypothyroidism looks more suspect.

has been going on too long, but only this past month has she been getting worse, she was 4 last january and you would think she was 8, had a litter when she was 2 and she never had another until january just gone,

Then the blood tests from a few months ago would have very little relevance to how she is now.

will take her tuesday for another test,

Hi Adele
One of mine had diabetis and also had an underactive thyroid gland.  With having the underactive thyroid he did'nt lose weight, became very luthargic and slept alot.  He was put on soloxin tablets for the thyroid which worked wonders and had 2 x daily injections for the diabetis.  He carried on for another six years with these ailments plus heart & lung troubles, bless him.

Good luck for tomorrow.

A friend of mine had a Dobe who was hypothyroid; it took over 2 years to get the dog diagnosed though because the vet she saw first was not very good at understanding/interpreting the results. Do some research on hypothyroid before you visit the vet - be aware that many dogs can show very different symptoms from the "common" ones, some show none at all almost. Some have weight gain or weight loss even and it is still hypo and not hyper thyroid. Look out for/google for articles by Jean Dodds and Alise Shatoff :)

Hope you find out the problem, and that she's OK :)
