Hi everyone

Great to be able to talk to other dog lovers.  I have a male West Highland Terrier (Charlie)who is five months, he is absolutely wonderful and we could not ask for a better pup.  We're hoping to get another Westie but are not sure whether to wait until Charlie is a little older, what would be the best age and alos how do you introduce them if the young pup is not vaccinated?.  Also the dogs will be left on their own a few hours each day so I was wondering what other people do, whether they seperate them or not.

My last question is if the new pup is not fully vaccinated, is it at risk of catching something off Charlie.

Thanks, appreciate any advice

I would wait until charlie is at least 1 yr old before bringing in another puppy. Are you thinking of another dog, or, bitch? remember if you bring in another dog they could possibly  fight for top dog, does not happen all the time, but can. Your new pup should be ready for its first vaccination at 8wks, the age you should bring it into your new home and get it vet checked the next day,  would also seperate them when going out for the first few weeks until you know they will get on with each other, thats where crate training is usefull, all my pups are crate trained before they go to their new homes, so being crated should not be a problem for the new owners. As long as Charlie is vaccinated pup should be o.k. with him.   Hope this helps. arnt westies great, love them to bits.
