Could anyone tell me which (if any) insurance company offers insurance policies for breeding dogs? I'm pretty certain there used to be at least one company but for the life of me I can't remember which one it is!

I've asked the same question recently, the only one I found is Petplan.........very expensive and it has to be running for 6 months before you can make a claim!

The |Kennel Club also do a very good one and very competitive, also the National Farmers Union.

Sorry misread your question not sure about breeding dogs.  I know for a fact that there are none, or not many Insurance policies that insure horses for breeding.!  Very risky I would have thought and the premiums would be extortionate!!

I'm sure that the policy I read up on stated that you had to have bred a certain no of litters before they would insure ;)

A few months ago I spoke to petplan about the insurance for breeders, and I have to admit the quote they gave me was really good, cant remember exactly now but was in the region of £128 per month and this was for all 5 bitches and one dog, but it also included Bailey, not being used for stud, and Penny, not being used for breeding. The insurance premiums quoted for the same dogs not on the breeding plan was £78. The only stipulation was that I had to have bred and registered at least one previous litter, and insurance had to be up and running for a minimum of 6 months before cover became effective. It did not cover the CHV Vaccine or any medication such as Ab's before mating or during whelp if they were given by choice and not nessessity.  But it did cover all costs of emergecy C section, out of hours etc.

Just as a note, I do not insure my dogs at all, but like to get all information that is available :D

We have Britney with Sainsbury's and Barbie with Marks and Spencers they both give great cover for under £10 a month. It is good basic cover up to £6000 a year, including things that come with the pet passport adn travel in Europe.

Thanks Britney1000  I've looked at the Marks & Spencer Insurance but again they don't cover for breeding :-(
