I live in India, and do not know a good vet in my area. My 6 year old dog has had a decreased appetite for a while and for the last one week has been refusing all food. We have been giving her oral rehydration solution using a syringe. We have also given her IV fluids. She doesn't seem to be in pain, but is breathing rapidly and is very tired. Can anyone give me any ideas on what to do to help her get better?

it sounds like you really need to get her to vet if thats poss as if she gets to dehydrated will probably need to go on a drip. and there must be a medical reason why she isnt eating you really need to get her looked at

It is really impossible to diagnose something over the internet the dog has to be examined and a full history taken by someone with appropriate training, if there really is no vet in the area (even a poor one is better than nothing) perhaps someone with human medical qualifications might be able to give you a little guidance.

There are a million and one possible causes for those symptoms, and without examining the dog (taking its temperature etc) there is no way anyone could diagnose the problem. Please take the dog to someone who can help in person. Good luck.

Perhaps you could speak to a vet on the phone, at least they would understand any issue about local diseases that we, on a UK board, will not be able to appreciate.

As Isabel says, perhaps you could at least speak to someone - hope this may be of some help.

Agree with you Michelle

The OP added other info (such as being a doctor themselves and not getting any useful info from the local vet). It was not a post to delete.

If the op is still looking - it needs blood/hemo tests and a scan.

Just going on my own experience of a dog not eating for a week and the other symptoms you have described, it sounds like it could be cancer of the spleen, but it could also be so many other things.

Please join Guest so we can really help.
