Hi, how much should I expect to pay for an adult dalmation of pet quality??
There is a three year old just up the road from us which is KC reg & they want £250 for him. I think this is a little expensive as the owner bought him as a puppy for £350!
???... Your opinions would be much appreciated.

I wouldn't necessarily expect to pay more for a puppy than for a fully grown dog. I would say she is actually undercharging, if he is a nicely bred kc registered dog, whether of pet or show quality.

Unless you are paying for a well trained adult dog, I would expect to pay more for a puppy - a puppy is a (relatively) blank canvas, whereas buying an older dog you cannot be sure of what problems you are getting too. I'm not sure what the going rate for dalmatians is, but £350 doesn't sound alot.  As an example, in rescue we would ask £100 for an adult lab of 2 -3 years, less for one older, so £250 does sound alot unless you are paying for something like specific training or show quality, and if that was the case I'd expect it to cost more than £250.:)

I would have thought that £350 for a KC registered Dalmation was very cheap.  Are you sure that it's KC registered and not DLRC registered?  If it says pedigree and papers this does not necessarily mean KC paper!  Also question as to why they are selling it at that age.

No, £350-£400 is average for a well-bred, KC reg dalmatian pup.

I'd want a super-well-bred, show quality pup (real top-of-the-range job) for that sort of money!

Why is he being rehomed? Breed rescue would expect a donation of £100 or so, and some of the dogs are completely untrained. They paid about the average price for him as a pup, and if he's healthy and KC registered then £250 for an adult without behavioural problems is fair.

JG do you mean for a "pup" the average price now is £5-600 and has been for a while.

I dont know of anyone who would sell a patch for that price. ;)

It's not that high around here, TTS - a patch would go for about £200-£250 and a reasonable pet for about £350-£400. For £600 or so I'd expect a heck of a lot of well-known red names! ;)

well my friends one of whom lives very near you sold her patches at £500 and neither parents champs the rest £600.  My other friends have just sold there whole litter for £600 in the midlands again neither parents champs.  At the prices you are quoting it would just encourage a impulse buy which I find very disturbing.  For champ parents most people I know charge £700.  I think if you check most club members charge these prices to discourage people from impulse buying quite rightly.

I wouldn't call £400 an impulse buy.  But I would call £600-£700 profiteering.
