Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / When is a golden retriever fully grown
- By Guest [gb] Date 08.04.05 18:42 UTC
I have a Golden retriever who was 16 months old yesterday.  He has always been a good size, however lately he is starting to put on weight (outwards), which is fine for now as long as this growth spurt stops eventually!  There has not been any considerable change in his diet so I was just wondering whether this sudden growth is normal for his age, and at what age he is approx fully grown, I have red that this is at 18 months, is this correct?
Thankyou

Hi,

I would say height wise most would have reached this at 18 months but can be up 2 yrs.
One of my males reached correct height for a Golden breed at 12 months but he now almost fully mature 2yrs.
However too mUch weight on a young Golden is not good for their hips and neither is too much exercise under 12 months.
By 2 yrs very unlikely to grow anymore in height.
