I thought we had made our back garden dogproof by slabbing it over and
surrounding edges with chips but puppy is digging up holes all over the place, any advice would be welcome.
Thanks.
The traditional answer is to created a digging pit for your puppy by burying something nice in an area where you are happy for it to dig - or persuade your local mouse/mole population to reside in a particular area.
Another idea is to book a holiday to Australia and tell the pup to keep digging!

Sorry I've no answer, dogs do dig, some more than others. Think the worst thing to do is fill the hole in, it will always be dug again only larger. It will slow up as he grows but may not stop altogether. Have tried the dog pit idea, did not work, if anything seemed to encourage looking for goodies all over the back yard. Perhaps your suposed to bury them :D

I think the real canine JCB's are the Labradors. With one I had, at potato digging time all I needed to do was stick the digging fork in the potato patch and she'd do the rest. My job was to stand behind her and catch the potatos! As for stopping the confirmed digger, I think Christine had the right idea and I hear Australia can be quite nice at this time of year!

having walked foxhound pups for years, I can sympathise with your digging problem All I can suggest is giving them a smalll area of sand or soft soil as their own, it seems to work for foxhound puppies, except the area was previously & foolishly thought of as my veggie patch!!!1:D

I wish I knew. Having 4 Spanish Water Dogs they love to dig, maybe they're looking for water!!
I hope someone has the answer though.

I thought I was ok ... I mean I rescued adult dogs so they should be past the digging shouldn't they .... hah! After a year of finding his confidence ... my terrier then thought .... digging thats a new game ... and I have never been able to stop him ...
But please persevere with the dog ... in rescue you wouldn't believe the number of young dogs people don't want because "it digs the garden" !!! I always reply, well yes .. but it does rather save you doing it doesn't it ... then scowl at them and take the dog. Honestly I have been to houses where that is the excuse and the garden looked like the dog would do it a favour if it dug ... but of course they say it isn't the garden it is the muddy paws in the house ... so you look towards the house and think ... well I guess you know. Seriously ... I don't think there is an answer except patience and understanding. :)
