- By Alli [gb] Date 08.04.05 10:59 UTC
Hi all

My local college are offering evening classes in an Introduction to Dog Agility, I'm going along to the introdution and enrolment evening to see if I want to do it. I don't know how keen they'll be to take me and my Mad Red Dog though :D Anyone else ever heard of this as an evening class and has anyone ever seen an Irish doing agility?

That sounds great Alli, ive never heard of that round my way though :(

At our ISBC fun days we have an agility course and some of the Irish are really good at it, when I took Fagan to enroll in our local agility club a lady was telling me how her old Irish used to be really good at agility.  I can imagine it will be fun, if yours is anything like Fagan his concentration doesnt last for long :D :D

I'm going to go and take my older sensible girl with me. She gets a wee bit left out as she doesn't like showing. At the moment she comes to work with me and has great fun running around the yard trying to scavenge as much horse pooh as she can get her teeth round. She is fairly good and has a fab recall, her sit and stay isn't too bad and when she is calm her heelwork is pretty good. All in all it should be fun. If it doesn't work out withmy girl my sister has a border collie out of the last litter I bred when I was with my ex who will be fabulous at it. Oh dear that means I'll be out another evening, hmm my OH complains that I don't see enough of him as it is. Well maybe it's better that way :D :D :D

Alli, his first show is next weekend and he has turned into a mega teenage SOD.  We had a match on Wednesday at ringcraft judged by an Irish Setter judge (I forget her name now)I put him in the puppy walk because he isnt quite 6 months and he wouldnt stand once for me, he kept growling and biting me - in a fun Irish way  he just about let the judge go over him, moved ok ( only did a couple of gallops and lunges  ) for the final stand I just had to free stand him using a treat and she pulled him out 4th out of 10 which I was well surprised at.  She said she would have liked to place him higher but couldnt for obvious reasons :D :D  We are going to a companion show at the weekend for a bit of practice, lets hope he behaves.

Yes!! I know 3 irish that do agility and they are all great! I think you should go for it, if you don't enjoy it your dog will and thats worth it enough for me :)
