I posted a question on the visitors board before I figured out how to register.  Moonmaiden answered and asked if Shine had come into season yet.  No she hasn't.  I am just now trying rescue remedy to see if this helps her fear of strangers.  It may help somewhat but I'm thinking not enough.  We did have her breeder handle her in one show and it that didn't help.  She tweeked her tail a little to distract her and she hung in for reserve but ever after that when a judge tries to touch her she tries to sit.  We may be over that but she leans way out and won't let the judge go over her. Be assured her fear of strangers (judges) pre dates this show. The last judge said she was being pretzel.  The teeth are the easiest part, the body near impossible.  I could live without the Championship but the novice obedience has a stand for exam and I've never had a dog without an obedience title.  She's a smart affectionate girl at home and loving to even casul friends.  Once the ordeal of the judge is over she puts her tail up and gaits perfectly.

I would definitely try the T touch as it does work & lots of rescues use it with very very shy animals & it releases the body's natural endorphins

I would try someone other than her breeder as unconcious "OMG she's not going to like this"can be picked up from the handler. One way that a very "unusual"dog trainer used to use was to rub your hands over the "judge's"hands so that she will pick up your scent which could also help(It's the only thing of Barbara Woodhouse's I would even consider using

If it is just the Obedience you want to work on then don't forget it is NOT a stand for examination & can be trained for even with the shyest of dogs by making it rewarding for her. I would train her with someone you know she will let touch her to help you desensitize her. I used to train a GSD that had been beaten by a "dog"breaker just as the TT came in so I had to get her through the TT.

I started by myself & the "judge"walking towards each other & nothing being said & passing each other by 6 foot or so & then gradually closing in on each other, when she had got used to this & we had got within a foot or so, the jusdge stood still & I did heelwork around the judge & then the judge walked around us whilst we stood still. All the time nothing being said. Then I got the judge walk up to us & we stood talking for a little while whilst I passed a large treat in view of my bitch to the judge who held it head height for the dog & again nothing was said to the dog, if she took the treat I said a quiet good girl & the judge walked pass
When she was ok with this we went to the next stage of her & me standing & the judge walking up being given the treat & offering it silently to her & then "brushing past but no hands touching the dog" I think by now you will be able to see how this progresses to the judge lightly touching the dog

When I judged I would always ask if the dog was ok if I spoke during the TT & some handlers would say yes but my dog goes OTTor they are a rescue or have had a problem etc I wuld then offer to do the TT silently & only touch the dog briefly & very very gently. I personally do not like the TT & hope eventually it will be removed, I never penalized a dog unless it tried to remove my fingers.

You're going to think I'm silly but it's my dog and if we can't figure out how to do it together we're not going to do it.  I'm sure she'd be much better off with professional people in conformation, obedience and hunt but she's stuck with me.  I am trying to get the T touch book sent to my local library but LOL the software won't listen to me ether.  Thanks for your help and concern.  I'll let you know if we make any progress in any direction.
Andrea and Shine
My other pointer, her aunt, loves everyone, is a certified therapy dog, a champion, and is only one leg away from her CDX.  Shine is smarter but we do have issues to work on.

Give it a try anyway I wouldn't let a pro handler near my dogs but I have a friend who has Border Terriers & has just won her 1at CC & got Res CC at crufts with her young dog & my naughty young cavaliers behave beautifully with her tail down etc whilst with me they fly the flag !  & I wasn't suggesting you use a pro handler either My Beardie Champion got so much confidence in herself that she ended her career being handled by a male friend because she fell in love with him when she was young she would have run a mile from him so there is plemty of time for your girl especially if she hasn't had a season yet

I would try the getting a friend to act as a judge to build up her confidence

With any friend, no matter how sightly Shine knows them, she stands wonderfully for exam.  LOL, it's just strangers she won't put up with.  Right now we're just having strangers walk to her with no exam and I'm praising her for standing.  There is always the problem of finding enough strangers!  I do have a friend that comes to dog class with her 17 year old daughter.  I will try having Myra handle her and see what happens.
Thanks.

Hi,
I have pointers and i know that pups can become shy the best thing to overcome this is to get as menny people to go over the dog touching them while you talk to the dog fedd her ect.

Well we'll see how well the training is working.  We're showing this Saturday.  I'll let you know.  Thanks for all the advise and support.
