Cant reply on original thread as it says Syntax error, but putting a Rescues point of view here, it very much depends on circumstances. Ideally I would say yes, and one of the first questions we ask is has the owner contacted the breeder? Had a case today with a breeder complaining not notified about a dog who went through Rescue hands, and it turned out the owner told us they had infomred breeder and they did not want dog back. this is a difficult one from rescues point of view, our prime concern has to be the dog, and in some instance getting it away from the home it is in is vital! Of course in other instances speed is not so important. It horrified me at first when people would not or could not give breeders details, thinking could one of mine ever have been passed on in this way as some owners are too embarrassed and dont want breeder to know they have failed. And when it comes down to it, we have to abide by the owners requests, as our adoption form is a contract with them. It is very hard, as we dont want to scare off owners of dogs in need, and dont want to alienate responsible breeders who are willing to rehome own dogs, and of course who help support rescue!
There is the embarrassment and annoyance factor from breeders too, I would hope most people in my breed are responsible and would be desperate to have thir own dogs back, but some surprising people have treated the information one of their dogs is coming into rescue wiht less than enthusiastic support, sounding distinclty miffed that we have contacted them. Being a Rescuer means treading a very fine line!
