If your bitch was to develope a discharge/infection within a 1 week of being mated would you say this would greatly reduce her chances of becoming pregnant or as long as it has been treated successfully with antibiotics it would have no bearing ?

It's happened twice with my girls, the first time back in the summer, sadly my girl lost her litter at 7 weeks when the vet took her off the AB's............but another of my girls had a slight infection in the second week after mating, got her on AB's and she was fine, went on to have 6 beautiful babies.

I think as long as you catch it early enough, you should be fine!  It's surprising how many bitches do get slight infections after matings.

it is always a good idea to find out if the stud dog is swabbed and checked as this is probably where the infection came from. I must say I have never had it happen to any of my bitches.

It also depends what the infection is.  Bitches often get a form of cistitis after being mated, and a course of antibiotics clears it up with no ill effects.  However, a BHS or a serious infection can mean no puppies or a smaller litter.  It would be difficult to judge really without swabs being taken.

my girly had an infection after her last mating and was treated with antibiotics and went on to abort :( she's now come back into season only three months later so I think it's messed up her cycle as well.
Fingers crossed for you

Is this a 'true' discharge or just the tail end of her season?  some times after mating they do colour up again for a while........is it a nasty discharge with odour?  If at all worried pop her along to the vets and get it checked out!

Good luck

Thanks all who have replied.

Not 100% convinced that it was true discharge  as one of my friends suggested that it could have been a back-wash from the dog from when she was mated. It was not thick or brown in colour more of a off white and very watery. I did take her to the vets and they checked her over, temp normal, still eating well and generally not off colour in any way but gave her a 5 day course of synlox. The discharge dissapeared within 24 hours of starting the antibiotics. So it's a case of fingers crossed

Thank again everyone
