I have a 2 year old sibe bitch which has had all relevent health checks, she is show standard (apart from absolutely hating ring craft and show ring). My question is regarding taking her to a stud. I have been told so many different things and now im just confused!
I was told by one stud owner to bring my bitch to him on the 10th day of her season and to leave her there while he mates her on the 10th, 12th, 14th day of season and then collect her. A lady told me to bring my dog on her 17th day for one mating. And another said he'd bring his dog to me around day 14 of her season!!!! What am i meant to think? The breeder of my girl has moved to spain and iv tried to contact her but no luck! Pls help as my brain starting to hurt!

Usual practice is for the bitch to travel to the dog, ideally on the day she's ready, which can be the 10th day, but can vary tremendously. My bitch wasn't ready to mate till the 18th day for her last litter! Personally I'd also be very unhappy about leaving my bitch with a stranger.

If I were you I'd work out which of the three dogs was most suited for my bitch in regards matching bloodlines, take her to the vet for premate tests to determine the date of ovulation, and take her to the stud within a couple of days of ovulation. If she still wasn't standing, I'd bring her home and try again a day or two later.

How do you know your bitch is Show Standard?. Have you taken her to any shows or had her assesed by a CC giving judge. Do you know the faults of your bitch (she will have some, they all do) & the faults of the dogs you are considering. Are the pedigrees compatible?. Have the Males had their health checks?.
