Hi ;)
My pup is now 14 weeks old (I think, seems like we've had her forever.....

:P ) She is about 90% clean and with having to move in 2 weeks I'm hoping to house break her completely in the very near future.
I still take her out at silly hours, by that, I mean for example, if I take her out for last jobs at 11.00pm I'll get up again at 4.00am for her and on the odd night that I have slept through her whines  she has managed to hold on until 6.00am. Remember they're still very young at this age and although some dogs manage it successfully at a younger age, I'm still of the opinion that they can't help the odd accident as their bowels and bladders haven't developed properly ;)
I had to kennel my pup over Easter (very long story) and the first night I had her back she was dirty in her crate, even though I was extra vigilant during this period because the kennels obviously weren't as keen at getting her out regularly and during the night. But on the second night home she was back into her old routine :)
The fact that he is house trained during the day means that he is getting the idea and I'm sure with a little more time and perhaps getting up during the night with him for a short period it will all happen fairly quickly for you.
HTH :)

Hi was reading the post and would like to know if when you get up to toilet pup can you get back to sleep as if i ahve come down stairs in early hrs she sees me i ignore her but i have got no chance of getting bk up them stairs as she will whinge very loudly for ever she is 11wk gsd my nite out with mates has also stopped lol
my year old Staffie wasnt completely house trained until about 5 - 6 months it may have been a bit longer. But she didnt have the problem in the night, from day one she slept all night and didnt wake up .But we had to put her out through the day regularly until she started to ask to go outl
You need to establish or re-establish a firm routine so he gets used to going at certain times day and night but only one night visit. So after getting up, after breakfast and before and after dinner etc and before bed then once in the night so he will get out of the habit of going in his bedding and then decrease the night toilet as he gets older. It all takes time and mine still had the odd accident even after 6 months old so you're not alone... honest! keep trying.
thanks for the advice, i will start getting up during the night for him to go outside
another tactic that you might want to take is investing in some puppy pads instead of newspaper, as they have a smell that makes the puppy want to go on that, alternatively, dogs like to go to the loo where they can smell that they have been before, so if you dab some of his urine onto the paper, he will be more inclined to go there, rather than in his bed. hope this helps, jess (;

The problem is that once you have trained the pup to go on the pad, you have to retrain it to go outside, because it thinks that weeing in the house is OK :( Best idea is to train the pup to ONLY wee outside.

I used puppy pads and found them very useful .I now have a 19week old who is house trained ,personally I think its more of a case of persistence with putting puppy outside regularily I did it every 20-30 min in the beginning and leave the door open weather permitting of course < over the top with praise >when performed and she now waits at the door in the house and barks consistently when she needs to go.

You are right :) But there are a lot of people who post on here that they have trained their pup to go on the pads and it will run back into the house, from the garden and pee on the pad :) They then have a problem getting rid of the pads.
Daisy

that is only if you leave the pad out during the day I think they are useful during the night or if you have to go out and leave a young pup alone better than coming home to puddles on the carpet or floor and even if crated it can be put on on one side of the crate .
When I was present and pup was able to get outside I didnt use them .Now she waits until someone returns.

I agree. Our 14week old staff goes to the door for wees and poos, its only over night- usually when we have had a lie in, that she wees on the puppy pad. ((Well almost, she puts her front paws on it and wees over the kitchen floor, but at least the thought is there bless.!!))
When we are up early (or our normal time) there isnt any thing, so we let her out first thing.
She has now got into the habit of not even going to the door, she just stands bolt upright in the middle of the kkitchen looking at the door, but not near it. lol, its so funny, like she cant be bothered to walk to the door unless we are there to open it !!!!!
We praise her loads when she goes outside, and DON'T say anything when she goes inside, because its usually our fault for lieing in, or not picking up her "i need to go" signals !
