Hello everyone, I just got my exam timetable!! they start in 3 weeks time and I have 6 writtens, 6 practicals and 6 orals!!!!! :( very scary! I have never had so many exams.....and worse, they go on for nearly 4 weeks :( :(  arghhhhh!!
Does anyone have any tips on how to get through the next few weeks without burning out completely? I usually only have about 3 exams over the space of  2 weeks, but this year its really tough!

Hi Carol, that certainly sounds like alot of work, but it'll be worth it in the end. Good luck with it all, and just think......... baby yankee after it's over and done with. :)

sounds scary doesn't it? what exams are you taking? i have been through my GCSE's, A-levels, BSc, MSc and am now in the middle of my PhD, so I'm no stranger to exams. At uni we used to get 8 exams over 7 days which was terrifying but I found that it was easier when they packed them in than when the exams were spread out because it kept you on your toes a bit more. I think the best bit of advice is to realise that you can't productively sit for hours and hours revising, only do a couple of hours at a time then take a really decent break that way you don't start your exams shattered already. Also I found that the best place to revise is in the showe, just stick some of your notes/diagrams into a plastic pocket and stick it up in the shower, its amazing how much information you can take in in 10 minutes a day.
Also I used to scent revise, if you have alot of different topics to revise then get some of your favourite perfumes/scents/essential oils and then say if you're revisinf physiology then wear one scent, or pahrmacology another scent, and then on the day of the exam make sure you wear the same scent and it all comes flooding back to you, I know it sounds weird but it really works.

Sarah, my exams are for 3rd year vet med, and are vet Microbiology, vet Parasitology, vet Pharmacology & Toxicology, vet Surgery, Small animal clinical studies, and Large animal clinical studies....hava a written, a practical and an oral in each one and must pass them ALL in order to get into the next year! worst bit is missing all the shows for the next few weeks, :( as I usually have one every weekend, but hopefully it will pay off and there are lots to go to in the summer!! I havent tried the scent association, it sounds like a very good idea! my room is covered in posters with pictures and life cycles of various horrible parasites etc....I have even had to take down my Orlando Bloom poster to make more room!!!!! (but draw the line at taking down my 'yankee' calendar!!)  :)
College is really scary this time of year, there is always a line of vets outside the library at 8am, waiting for it to open...followed by a 'stampede' through the doors in order to get a coveted library seat....the whole place smells of 'tar'-like black coffee....and everyone looks pale and tired with most of the guys showing the initial signs of a beard!!!!!

Hi Carol, I've not done as many exams as smurgle but the advice is spot on.  It doesn't necessarily have to be a scent but if you have something you associate with a particular subject or topic it has been proven to help people remember if they have an association e.g piece of clothing - left cuff for 1 theory, right cuff for another etc etc.  I've also found it helpful to put things up all over the house if I'm struggling with a particular topic e.g post-its with words or diagrams on tv, in fridge, walls etc.  Good luck

GET AHEAD - a video by Lana Israel  and Tony Buzan (she's a little bit condescending but then she's american :) )  It really is the BIZ. 
It teaches you to mind map and once you've learned the technique you'll never worry about an exam again!  Or retaining and retrieving vast amounts of information.   There's also plenty of information on organising revision and getting through the actual exams.
There's even help on studying at the last minute

I can't praise it enough.  It turned me from an exam phobic into an A-grade student!!
