Hiya all

My pup's (Dana) 6 weeks insurance is almost up, and im wanting to renew it all, Pet plan offer a good one the Supreme one but quite costly, Any one with Marks and Spencers? Been quoted half the price of Pet plan with as good a cover? Any help would be great

Hi Jenna,

I'm with M&S and OH looked very thoroughly into comparing all the pros and cons of various other policies before deciding on this one.  It's much cheaper than many others, has a higher cover per illness (some more than three times as much) than some better known or similarly priced Co's, full lifetime cover (no jumping ship after a year with high bills for a specific illness like some) and for a matter of a few pence we upgraded to pay no excess on any vet charges also ;)

We've already had a claim too which was sorted out very quickly and easily - I'd happily recommend them.  However if you do a search on the forum on insurance you will get lots of info about CD members experiences with them and other companies

HTH, Regards, Teri :)

I'm with DBI (Dog breeders insurance).  They're very reasonable and I had to claim a few years back and they were very good!

I was looking at insurance this morning for puppies. E+L semed to be the cheapest and offered good cover.

Apparently getting a payout from them is like getting blood from a stone. Do a search on here - nobody seems to have a good word for them.

From E+ L or M+S?

E&L

Thanks for that advice, better to be paid out than not. I was with pet plan with Barnie and they were great, always paid promptly and Direct Line are the same with the cats. M+S was the 2nd best quote.

I have pet plan insurance. We have just put a claim in for heart surgery and specialist treatment and no problem. The good thing is most vets invoice them direct rather than you having to pay first then claim back. I agree the amount of firms out there ready to sell insurance is forever growing but cheap is not always good, you need to do your homework.

Hi

We are with the Kennel Club - have 3 very expensive Shar Pei and have to say Kennel Club have been fantastic.  Would highly recommend them.  I am with E&L for my horse insurance and so far haven't had a claim (only been with them 5 months) but I have heard bad reports about them - that might be only for horse insurance though.

Do not touch E&L with a barge pole, just as you fill out and send claim form off, they come back with loads more questions and it takes forever to get money out of them.

One piece of advice with insurance is always make sure they will cover illness that is ongoing. A lot of pet insurance policies only cover for that year, this means that if the dog becomes ill and needs permanent medicine they will only pay up until the end of the year and when you renew, it'll either cost more or will not pay out for illness. We're with Pet plan it may be a bit more expensive but as someone else as said, the vets tend to deal with them direct and gets rid of filling in forms for us as well as paying large amounts of money up front. They are also very quick at paying out claims. The premium remains the same for life of the dog.
