Hi All,
I have been keeping Boxers for a number of years, and a few years ago applied for an Affix to start my own Boxer line, we have had 2 lovely litters of puppies so far, one currently newborn and doing fine.
I am wanting to keep a bitch back from this litter (as our female as now had two litters and we and not having any more from her - she deserves a rest, she's done us proud) to continue our line and start a headlong plunge into showing.
Both our dogs came from good lines and were bought for breeding purposes (definitely pets first! breeding second!) so they were never shown, although our bitch who we brought in later (the dam of this litter) was shown lightly as a youngster.
We are keeping a little girl back as i said from this litter, and i want to get into showing (this was the plan all along, however our breeding came first and we kind of put showing on a backburner) so we now have the opportunity with this litter.
However, this litter (shock, horror) is currently not docked (still undecided) and i'm unsure if leaving these babies natural will hinder any chance we may have in the show ring, what do people think? I've been looking at the Northern Boxer Club as my first port of call for more information, however i'm worried of the reaction of other breeders in potentially having an undocked boxer for showing.
I'm wondering if anyone near by (I'm in Doncaster) a. knows of any people i could speak to to give me some advise on getting started, obviously ringcraft and socialisation puppy classes are a must and b. advice on what to clubs to join... etc.
Any advice would be fantastic.
J
Don't know how old your litter is but if they are over 3 days old then they shouldn't be docked! You also have to be with the council of docked breeds who will advise re. a suitable vet, but really I would think it's all too late for this.
Hopefully some boxer people will come on and advise you further about how the breed are doing with dogs that are undocked.
Good luck with your pups and I'm sure that you'll become hooked with showing.

hi if you tpye" ukboxerdogs" into google search, the will give you lots of info about breed clubs in your area, i know you can show boxers with tails, but to be honest i have not seen any in any shows i have been to, also if the puppies are over 3 days old you will not be able to have them docked,
good luck in your showing and hope you enjoy it.
