HELLO
MY BORDER COLLIE SNOOPY GAVE BIRTH TO 9 HEALTHY PUPPIES ON SAT/SUN. SHE HAS BEEN GREAT WITH THEM TENDING TO ALL THEIR NEEDS. BUT I AM A LITTLE CONCERNED THIS MORNING SHE IS LEAVING THEM AND WANDERING AROUND THE HOUSE AND OUTSIDE AND SEEMS TO BE LOOKING FOR A NEW NEST. SHE HAS A COMFORTABLE WELPING BOX WHICH I KEEP CLEAN THE PUPPIES ARE WALM AND WELL PROTECTED. HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE AND WHAT SHOULD I DO

Get the vet to check her over this could be the first signs of eclampsia.

It could also be that she's content that the pups are content so doesn't need to be there all th time.  But any worries it is always best to have a word with your vet and see what they say.

Also as our dogs are family members they sometimes fee torn between their responsibilites and beign with us.

I personally encourage the bitch to stay with her pups all the time only allowing her out to the toilet at frequent intervals for the first two weeks.  I spend some time in the same room reading quietly etc, but the mother pup bond is first.

The first three days you practically find they never leave the whelpign box, this ensures the milk comes in properly (as with us the true milk arrives in volume about the third day). After this she is likely to spoend time out fot he box as it will be too warm for her.

Another reason for restless bitches is pups getting overheated and restless, but you don't mention this.

If she is wild eyed panting a lot as well as restless then a Vet visit to rule out Eclampsia would be a good idea.

Hi Snochar,

Hope all goes well for your girl - you're doing the right thing by attending the vet as it will set your mind at ease.  Good luck and please let us know how things go.

Best wishes, Teri :)

Hello

Cancelled vets after speaking to them again as Snoops settled down and went to sleep about 12.30 been fine ever since so didn't want to upset her by taking her away fro her pups.
