Im thinking about going on holiday with my children in August for the first time in years and am worried about my dogs. Im not sure if to put them in a boarding kennel or try to find a suitable person in the family to stay at my house and look after them. Ive heard such horrible things about kennels and will worry sick about my babies, who i might add are spoilt rotten and used to lots of cuddles and attention which i no they wont get in kennels, advice anyone

If you are holidaying in UK there are lots of dog friendly places to stay. We love Norfolk for it's beaches and long walks.
We have just been away to Cyprus for 2wks, without Spice (BC now almost 18months old) and we found that we had peace of mind leaving her with very good friends! she was pampered rotten and got loads of love and attention. They enjoyed her company and have offered to have her again anytime, even if only for a day, so it went very well.
Our previous dog we left in kennels, but we checked them out very thoroughly first and found a small, friendly one, local to us, where she went into her 'run' very happily and the 'walkers' were very dog friendly people, a lot of whom did it on a voluntary basis purely because they loved dogs!
So we have used different options, although I must say I prefer to be able to rely on friends as I felt more at ease knowing she was getting lots of exercise and cuddles :D

Mine goes to the kennels every time. He may not get the same fuss as he does at home but they love the dogs and he's well cared for and most of all he's safe and secure. Being in the kennels he goes to now has had no ill effects on him at all - he's happy to go there and happy to come home. He did get kennel cough a couple of times though at previous kennels, one time it was quite serious.
Definitely different standards in different kennels so check them out carefully if that's what you decide.

Mine will go into kennels now after my niece looked after her! (She is 20!)
We came back to a £200 + phone bill (just for the 2 weeks), All the drinks gone, smoked dope in the house (stunk for weeks) & the house was filthy, no pots washed, bath grimey, things broken, complants from neighbours about late night partys :-(
The animals were well looked after & still go mad when the see her, but if you get a pet sitter choose carfully!!

We send our dog to pet hotel called hydegate it's really reasonable at £100 per week for the premier package, you can pay extra for sessions such as extra walks, play time etc. They vet check every day and are have been fantastic everytime we have taken Poppy. They have reduced rate for 2 dogs together but I'm not sure it's a huge discount. They have a website if anyone is interested.

I am going on holiday in June and I have 3 cavaliers (2pups one elderly bitch), also 3 cats, cockatiel and fish. I am very lucky in the village were I live we have a police checked, insured, retired gentlman who is looking after them all for £150 for a week. He even sleeps at the house if he thinks it neccesary. last year we only had 2 cavaliers and they went to my eldest pups breeder for a week, they came back ungroomed,
my 9 year old bitch came back with an abcess an her side from a dog bite and the breeder had not even noticed this. If you can find a good reliable pet sitter I would use them as to me they seem like the least worrying for the dogs.
