My tip starryeyes would be don't get any at all - it's bloody cr*p. I got 'free' silver insurance with a holiday company, and upgraded to a gold insurance, but when it came to the crunch they wouldn't pay out, dodging it on all sorts of pathetic grounds, and we ended up with a £300 bill. Not bloody worth it. If you're going to get any, get the cheapest!!

I'm the biggest anti-insurance person on the planet, however, I have to have it before I travel as I have what they call "pre-existing conditions". If anyone has trouble getting a quote for travel insurance on health grounds, try Tesco. This is the second year they have insured me for a realistic amount and under 200 pounds (one quote I had was 1,200!!).
Just a thought, someone I knew died recently on holiday. Imagine the costs involved in that if there was no insurance cover. You really should have it.

That's a depressing thought! In all seriousness (I was sounding off earlier) my mum and dad went to Singapore last year and within 2 weeks mum had to have an operation on her eye for a detaching retina, and two weeks after that she fell off a pavement and smashed in her patella - and her insurance covered the lot, including first class seats home! You just have to make sure that you read the small print, but I sincerely wouldn't bother 'upgrading' to any gold policies, as I think they amount to the same anyway and it's a waste of extra cash.

I used M&S last year and found them very reasonable. I had a small claim too and they paid up quickly.

change your bank account to one with the alliance and Leicester. I've got free travel insurance with my current account with them. think you will be able to find details on their website about it. www.alliance-leicester.co.uk Sorry cant do links

Its only for 4 days a long weekend in NY went to tesco they wanted £54.00 rip off thought there must be some cheaper than that!!!
I've used
Boots before and found them to be reasonable, you get points and their cover levels are pretty good! Check with your credit cards though, I get travel insurance through my AmEx now, think a lot of card companies offer similar services?

the post office travel insurance seems the cheapest one had that a couple of years running dont now how good they are on paying up though never had to use it ( hope i never dont in the future). i suppose you will just have to shop around at least if you get a cheap 1 you dont expect to much its only annoying if youve paid top whack for it and when you come to claim they offer jack sh**!!

Found my insurance cheapest one from WWW.insureandgo.com in case anyone need if for future reference......:)
