hello everyone
i just got a 8 weeks old mastiff cross dog.what i needed advice on was is it o.kay to feed him on baby chicken meat u can get from asian butchers.i believe baby chicken bones are very soft.

Chickens you buy from any butchers are generally not more than about 12 weeks of age anyway so their bones will not yet be set.  You can feed even baby puppies on chicken wings and carcass'

This concept has always made me nervous, chicken wings that is. I think it is because I have a fear of bones getting stuck in the throat, human or dog. I know big wooose.

I think its a fear for all of us to start of with.....and dogs can tend to gulp wings for the first few times until they learn to eat them properly....which doesn't take long. However the benefits far outweigh the risks IMO.My oldest elkhound used to swallow his wings...then regurgitate them in a quite corner and re-eat them...YUK!!!!

Go for it. I have just taken the plunge myself. I have thought about it for 6 months and read all the books. My GSD is sooo glad, I've never seen her enjoy her food so much.

should i cook the chicken wings or give them to my dogs raw?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 03.04.05 17:59 UTC
Most definitely raw! If you cook them you'll have to remove the bones and throw them away, because cooked bones are dangerous.

would they be able to eat the raw meat ok, and also im worried raw meat would make them aggressive, give them worms or make them sick ??

Raw meat does not make dogs aggressive...in fact it often works the other way and can calm them down since they are not being fed additives. It doesn't make them sick otr give them worms....mine have eaten raw meat for the last 12 months + and look great!

Mine were weaned onto them at 3-4 weeks old so from any age really. You can also try ribs, pigs trotters,ox tail, rabbit, lamb breast etc

I think I've found a use for spare cock chicks!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahhhhhh but Poppynurse, who will do the dirty deed. or will you just let your dogs chase them. Although, knowing most dogs, you will end up with a load of adult cock birds with the dogs still chasing them and never catching them :D :D :D
Lea :)

:) :) :) I think my husband may be persuaded to do the deed for me! Can you feed everything or things like intestines not advisable????? (obviously we will pluck first - don't want the dogs getting funny ideas about helping themselves!)?
