Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / haemophillia in GSD's
- By Guest [gb] Date 03.04.05 06:40 UTC
Hi, I am aware that Gsd's should only be bred from hip scored parents
I beleive it should be nore more that 19 (joint ) score.  I also
know that the sire should be haemophillia tested.  I'm a bit unsure about this.
Is this test a pass or fail test? If the sire tested positive what exactly
would it mean in terms of his own health.
Any info would be welcome, as I would like to know exactly what this means before I start looking for a pup.
Thanks

The test is pass or fail and will show if the dog is affected.  Not sure if it shows if a dog is a carrier????  Anyone???

I googlesd and found this:

If a male GSD has haemophillia any knocks, internal injuries or conditions that produce internal bleeding(such as ulcers etc) or cuts can prove fatal & they must never ever be bred from as all the bitches they produce will be carriers & if the bitch is a carrier as well they could they could produce bitches that also have the condition(very very rare)

As the gene that produces Haemophillia is on the X chromosome & is on the part of the chromosome that the Y chromosome does not match all males that have the gene have haemophillia

No one should buy a puppy that is by a dog with haemophillia or from a litter by an untested dog
