Hi,
I've got got a 15 month old spanial dog and thinking of putting him up to breed, it's my first dog and I've no idea how or when to go about this. I would welcome any advise available.

Thanks Mike.

Mike, glad to hear you have a lovely dog that you think would make a good stud dog. There are many people on this forum with lots of experience who will advise you on this especially the age at which to first use a dog at stud. But to begin with a few questions. Have you shown him ? Reputable breeders will be looking for stud dogs with a proven "track record" which shows he conforms to breed standard and is a good CKCS example. Is he heart and eye tested ? - Cavalier breeders are trying to eliminate these problems from the breed as far as possible. Is he of sound temperament ? Self explanatory. What lines is he from ? Without wishing to be snobbish good breeders will be looking for lines which will compliment and enhance their own. Good luck with whatever you decide.
