Has anyone ever succesfully challenged one?

I was issued one today for 'not parking correctly within the marking of the space/bay' I was parked squarely and wholly between the white lines BUT I didn't realise the bollard I had pulled up to actually marked the back edge of a footway that ran along the rear of the car park - there is no kerb, just two lines of paving slabs as opposed to brick paving which makes up the car park. According to my sources, parking on a footway and not parking within the markings of the bay are two seperate offences and need different codes on the PCN - I've written a letter which will be going off recorded delivery tomorrow.......

What do you think my chances are?

Assuming that the code written on the notice are that of the 'parking between the lines' then photographic evidence of your car correctly parked would/should help your complaint.  As for whether there are different codes I am not sure but always worth a go at getting off.

I have got off a couple of parking tickets where I have been late back to the car (by a few minutes) by buying another ticket to cover the time I was late and sending that in with a 'letter of apology'.   ;-)

If you write it very nicely it does help. My sister in law works for the traffic police dealing with the fines etc.. She always says if the letter is nice she lets them off (once) ;-)  if it is a demanding letter tough they pay :-)))

Was this a traffic warden or the new council wardens that are about now ?

reason I ask is that because of so many complaints in our area the council wardens around here take photographs so ask for evidence if this is the case :)

It was a Counicl warden, and the ticket says no photograph was taken...........

The local council tried to get me a few months back at the Park and Ride Car Park ! Same city but the two adjacent park and Car Parks are run by the District and City Councils ! I bought a two day ticket and parked the first day in the one car park and then the second day in the other car park. No signs to say beware this is run by two different councils .

Got back to my car after being stuck on the bus in traffic jams on a Friday evening for an hour and found a ticket for £80  Needless to say I was livid :D

I wrote a letter saying how ridiculous they were being and how they could see a ticket on my dash board and I had paid and I wasn't trying to be a ticket dodger, went on to the policy of a greener City to encourage park and ride, etc etc etc ! :D

Letter back saying they accepted they had been a bit hasty but I still had to pay the 60p ticket charge

I sent a cheque for 60p and reminded them that it would cost at least that plus more for bank charges. They never cashed it :D :D

Theres been lots of controversy about these wardens in our area :(
Id challenge it too- but nicely

I put the correct money in the meter once and unbeknown to me one of the pound coins didnt fall through but it wasnt returned either- stuck the ticket on my screen and went on my merry way-
when I returned early I found I had a ticket. Upon checking the ticket I realised what had happend and wrote to appeal. They accepted it but said I should really have checked.
Didnt have to pay though- so its worth a go :)

Count your self lucky. Round here there have been a number of instances of clamping firms clamping people who are legally parked, when you come back to the car they demand cash to release it (sometimes with threats). They are in effect holding your car to ransom - Beware!

I'd also be tempted to take photo's of the parking bay and lack of
marking on the footway....
Pointing out how easy it is to make a genuine error...and hope that
they feel charitable
