I am currently looking after my friends jack russell puppy for 6 weeks while my friend is in australia. Prior to my friend leaving, the puppy had begun coming out in a red blotchy rash around her mouth and on all of her underside. My friend said it had started to happen occassionally around half an hour after she eats. My friend said it hadn't been bothering the puppy but i noticed that she had the rash this afternoon, which was also very hot, and she still has it 8 hours later and has begun scratching. Her food has been changed a few times but we are wondering whether it may be a wheat allergy, as so far all her food has had wheat in it. Just wondered if anyone has a dog with the same kind of symptoms or a wheat allergy before i take her to the vets. Any advice would be much appreciated as i am a horse owner not a dog owner so am not used to this! Many thanks

Probably taking her to the vets is your best option.  We also have a scratchy dog, who has been scratching since he was 17 weeks old.  We are at the vets every couple of months with him (mainly his ears)   Perhaps in your case it is the food as you say it happens when she is fed.  What food is she on by the way?  It also not a good idea to keep changing the food all the time.  Our dog has been on James Wellbeloved lamb and rice kibble (dried food) but I have just changed him to nature diet which he loves and gobbles up straight away.

I would agree with Anna. My own puppy was rather itchy i feed her nature diet and James wellbeloved and bath her in quistel shampoo which seems to keep her itch free!! My puppy was never sore or red though so probably the vets would be a good idea.
