Just wondering what sort of prices people are paying for their car insurance.

I am looking at getting a quote for the Subaru WRX and haven't yet got it but think it is going to be a tad high !

I currently have comp protected full no claims for a group 15, 2.4 L semi auto Stilo for just under £500 . I am 37 and have 3 points for going through a red light, live in Oxon.

Let me know as interested in doing some comparing ! :)

Well can't remember off the top of my head what we pay for the VW and the Renault, but do know it's with EGG. Hubby had a thing for performance cars when he was younger and getting him insured was always a nightmare. We've used EGG for the last few cars, they're quite cheap as far as Hubby goes. I think if it were just me as a lady driver on the docs I could probably get cheaper but then EGG would match it. I just trust them and their service. I had a horrible time with Halifax/Churchill.

Used Sainsburys for the last couple of years and have been really pleased with them. Mini Cooper £220 Saab £237 (but it is a few years old). Not sure what groups they are though.
- By Brunodog Date 31.03.05 19:46 UTC
try www.screentrade.co.uk they are the cheapest around, for me and my friend i have 2 yrs no claims n she has 20 yrs no claims and we both have totally different cars
- By arched [gb] Date 31.03.05 19:58 UTC
Just tried 'screentrade' but it was £257 for the mini. Weird how these companies work, as I said, we have great quotes from Sainburys but my friend tried them and the quote was pants !!.
- By LJS Date 31.03.05 20:17 UTC
£750 on screentrade for the suby so that is better than we thought :D :D

There maybe a new addition coming sooner than I thought ! :D

Hi Lucy,

A lot of on-line companies don't touch anyone with points or if they do only for standard *moderate* speeding (like SP30, 3 points)   Often going through red lights is a big No-no so although they quote you they make it so high you're unlikely to accept

I saved a fortune on a big 4x4 going onto esure.com but had clean licence and max no claims - nearest to them was about £120 dearer from memory ;) however I'm not sure if they take on drivers with recent points - only if nearly expired I think (the points that is - not the drivers :D )

Regards, Teri :)

I am with More Than and I did it on line and was quite pleasantly surprised at the quote I got for the Stilo ! :)

I haven't managed to get in touch with them yet to see about the Subaru as the only time I seem to have had is on the park and ride bus and my flippin mobile phone won't allow calls through their number ! If I get a munite at work I will have to try and call them, not very likely but I can always hope :)

Just a thought but have you tried the Internet broker confused.com? I use them every year when I'm renewing and I always get about 10 quotes back and then I compare ;)

In saying that, I'm still with the AA, as nobody has managed to beat their premium and as brokers they also do a good job of getting me not just a cheap price but everything is covered unlike some cheaper policies that look good until you see what they don't do, like courtesy car in case of accident, removal of vehicle from side of road and the legal cover varies greatly as well. :)

I used to be with Morethan Lucy then I changed to Tescos they were £80 cheaper.

I pay £255 full Comp for a new. 2.0 TDI Zafira.

The insurance for our Mitsubishi Shogun (1 year old) runs out with Churchill shortly and they have quoted us £400, we have had a quote from Esure they have quoted fully com £290.  Try Esure online and get 10% off.   CAZ

Goodness, I sound like an advert!!!
- By LJS Date 01.04.05 17:09 UTC
At least you didn't say 'come on dear it's only an advert' like that annoying Winner twit ! ;) :D

I use CIS and have never found any cheaper. Even when I was 24 and only just started to drive. Last time I needed to renew, I went to loads and even the ones that claim to be cheap for women drivers were DOUBLE the price of CIS.
Tescos worked out £10 cheaper a year but you had to pay 2 months up front :(
And I know that CIS are good at paying out as mum and dad have been with them for years, and at the moment we collectively have 4 policies with them incvluding work vehicles.

Hi Lucy

I have my WRX with Tesco, I have just renewed for around £600 with breakdown, legal, prot ncd and 7000 mileage (I dont have any points thank god). Unfortunately there are not very many companies that will touch scoobies. Check out scoobynet for full list but may also be worth trying Adrian Flux and e-sure. Most others didnt even come close.

Surprisingly it was actually cheeper to insure OHs Porsche - Perhaps I should up grade to a cayenne! Especially as mine just failed its MOT - having asked OH to check it out 3 times he swore it was fine  So now I have a week without a car until it is fixed.
- By LJS Date 03.04.05 17:17 UTC
I will try tesco and see what I get ! Hope the car is better soon! :)

- By LJS Date 03.04.05 18:48 UTC
Tesco's have come back with £725 so that is the best so far :)

I will try the Subaru insurers tomorrow and see what they come back with.

I tried A Plan to see what they could find and they came back with £950. It is amazing the difference in quotes you get ! :)]

Norwich Union quoted nearly £3000 last year, sales person wasnt impressed when I said they were having a laugh!

Car will be better by the end of the week (hopefully) just needs new front pads (OH swore they were OK) and a slow puncture fixed (again OH said it was best left and was safe) I now find out it was a really big bolt and he didnt want to have to pay out for a new tyre. I think I had better take him off as beneficiarry for my life insurance :D
- By LJS Date 13.04.05 18:19 UTC
Very strange thing happened to day !

I had to ring Tesco's up as need to change the date of when the new insurance starts as the car might be ready sooner than we thought ! :D :D

Anyway they had to cancel and re do the policy and it has come out £50 cheaper  :D

I did question this but they said it was right and it depends on the day and what the underwriting dictates !

And it will (should) be even cheeper on line! I will never really understand how insurance works ?:
- By LJS Date 13.04.05 18:38 UTC
Mmmm I still think trying to understand the logic behind insurance and how it works !  :)

We are still questioning why we have had a 'bonus payment' of £1K because our flood costs have gone over £10K ! :D

Oh so excited, as we are soon to have our ickle Scooby ! :D
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 13.04.05 18:43 UTC
Hum Sounds like you are getting VFM from your insurance! Try not to do so with your scooby - they dont need an excuse to charge even more :(

Mine has developed a flat battery in protest at sitting around for a couple of weeks - hubby is in the garage now playing with acid etc to put in a new one - so will have to go for a blast tomorow :D:D:D Some things I will never grow out of ;)

When do you get yours?
- By LJS Date 13.04.05 18:53 UTC
VFM yes I think so as well ! Tesco's are doing something right from their results for this year ! :) They are really a retailer who has gone in the right direction looking at the current market needs ! :)

Not sure yet ! I was told today that most of the prep was finished and so really it is just the tax and the paperwork to sort out so maybe the weekend :eek : :D :D :D (Can you tell I am excited ? )

I don't think you could ever grow out of owning a one ;)

Hope yours is back in working order soon! :)

He is out on a 'test drive' as we speak <rolleyes>

Try not to get too excited - next you will be telling me you cant sleep. I nearly had kittens on the second day I had mine I was going a fair speed and crested the brow of a hill to find someone on my side of the road overtaking - breaks got a jolly good test I can tell you.

If you possibly can you MUST try and take it on the track (or better still drive someone elses) as you simply cannot drive them to their full potential on the road. It was also on the track that I started to feel the full potential of loosing your bottle in a 4x4 - DONT DO IT. Having been used to powerful 2 wheel drive cars (that I drifted all over the place) I was frankly shocked at how it breaks aways when it does - takes a lot of provocation but when it goes you had better be wide awake.

My trouble now is finding something that is as much fun but has more space for my stand to take to shows. Have to say that I am even thinking of getting a tow bar fitted - just dont know how I will stay below 50 :o

Hey Starryeyes I have a Jeep! Ours is a 51 Grande Cherokee and I love it to bits, wouldn't go back now. We pay £450 approx with Priviledge. Which one have you got and do you like it?
- By Joules [gb] Date 14.04.05 13:14 UTC
A few years back my Saxo VTR was broken into and I had to get the insurance to pay for the damage to the locks. It was Direct line. When I had to re new my insurance, they wanted nearly a £1000 for fully comp. I shopped around and many places wanted the same. I then tried that woman only one - Diamond... they insured me for just over £500. That's what I call a good deal! I am still with them now.
- By SharonM Date 14.04.05 13:31 UTC
My OH has his car insurance with Halifax, but we got extra discount as we have buildings and contents insurance with them too.  He has fully comp with protected no claims plus legal cover for £300 (but he has got a claim against him still going nearly 3 years on) hopefully this will be settled soon.  We have  Peugeot 806 1.9 TDI.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 14.04.05 19:38 UTC
Right fully comp. with my R reg. Astra and it's £500.  I've got ab out 8 years no claims, never had any points on my licence and it just seems to keeping going up as I'm getting older.  I'm with Zurich, the old Eagle Star.

With my VW I'm third party, it's a 1976 transporter and I pay under £200 with CIS, other companies when I first got it were trying to charge £900 or said that it was uninsurable!
- By Lea Date 14.04.05 20:54 UTC
I must say my N reg escort si 1.6 petrol, was as much to insure as my Y reg focus estate 1.6.
am sure it is because escort sis are boy racer cars :( :(
This is with CIS and I have had the cheapest quote with both!!!!!!
